I had a renewal done in about 2 weeks within the last 6 months.

Instead of asking how long it might take and waiting until the last minute, why not just schedule the renewal now (if you have to do it in person), or send in the mail in package, now. As in right now. Tonight. Today. Stop by a CVS on the way home and get your picture taken if you need to, and get it done.

Both of my parents had their appointment at the USPS on March 20. They had their passports delivered at their house on April 11th. So 23 days. Both first time passports.

I did one last May and it was here in 60 days. Mine had expired and I had to reapply again.
