My bushes were hit with the snow like everyone else and some have come back and then suddenly the green leaves wilt and then the bush is dead. Anyone know how to keep this from happening? What’s the cause? They’re 6 years old and larrgeee

damn. i planted mine last year and they took a lick with the snow. all seem to be coming back. i did notice a few branches that had nice leaves all of a sudden died but thought i might have weedeated too close to them

I lost one of mine as well and my conclusion was bot rot. I tried to save the plant by pruning well below the affected leaves, but it was like a new section of plant died off every week. It had gotten so bad that I'd pruned more than 50% of the plant, so I just replaced it. Like you, mine are large and the replacement is smaller, but they grow quickly.

Yep. Same here with my bushes which I just trimmed Sunday. I had cut off all the brown frozen limbs and butchered the green parts that appeared to have wilted leaves.

Mine took a beating from the snow/freeze as well. Damn shame since they had really taken off last year.

It’s widespread
Mine as well
Delayed freeze damage from too early pruning which we all do bc who likes dead foliage lol.
The plant was trying to heal by dying. We trim which stimulates growth but the stem can’t support it so it aborts it. Just cut them all the way back and let it come back from the roots. The root system is still there from the large plant it was prior. It will grow several feet this year

Same thing is happening to mine. Branches have died off and not I'm down to about half of what it was

That is my plan also. I have seven total in the backyard, and every one of them is shooting up from the roots. So I think I will just let them re-grow instead of replacing any.

Same thing happened to one of mine.
