Anyone here ever done it? If so, what do you think is the best time? Would it be worth the big bucks for the higher level accommodations?

Any other thoughts you could share please?

Not the QM but I have taken a transatlantic crossing from Southampton to NY It was the maiden voyage of the flashiest new ship on the seas.

No, it wasn’t the Titanic. It wasthe Norwegian Epic which was built on the English Channel I took the maiden voyage that brought it to the US.
It was late June and early July and it was still cold and foggy over the Atlantic much of the time. Enjoy the inside of the ship.

I’ve done an eastbound transatlantic on Seabourn, not Cunard, and the biggest thing to me was you lose almost an hour a day on an eastbound crossing with the time difference. I think Cunard does it in the middle of the day to not disturb your amount of nightly rest. I did it this time last year and the weather was nice, not too hot and not cold.

We crossed from Miami to the Canary Islands and it was rough, the extreme northern Atlantic is supposed to be even rougher seas. The QM2 is an ocean liner and not a cruise ship so it is built for that but I’d still take some motion sickness meds.

The QM2 crossing seems very popular as that is almost all that ship does. So they must be doing something right.

I’ve looked at doing a crossing on that ship and from my research I wouldn’t book anything less than a Princess grills level cabin. Cunard claims they don’t have different classes on board but they do. Grills level passengers have private facilities that Britannia passengers don’t have access to.

I'm looking at a Britannia level balcony. I'll have to do a deep dive to see what the private facilities are. If it's largely the dining room, I'll pass as I'm not into really fancy food. A decent breakfast and pub grub is more my speed.

Be careful there are Britaina balconies that are obstructed or enclosed in metal.

Just do some research on cabin type or call a travel agent.

Doing research on a daily basis right now...what I'm concerned about are the additional fees....the wife and I aren't big drinkers so I'm not worried about that, but everything else like the hotel fees and internet fees.

UPDATE - a friend of one of my neighbors will be making the Transatlantic crossing next week. I'll be talking to her when she gets back to get some first-hand expertise.

I have not done a transatlantic but I did cruse with Cunard about a year ago on the Queen Elizabeth. The people were mostly older Brits. The wife and I had a great time and Cunard is now easily our favorite cruise line.
