share your favorite songs, videos, stories, etc. here
eta: I suppose I had been familiar with him because of Honky Tonk Heroes and some of the other stuff he wrote, I just didn't know he wrote it

Shaver is great! I don’t know about outlaw, but late 90s 2005ish had a ton of great Texas music. Houston marchman are great especially the live viet Nashville.

Billy Joe wrote songs for all the greats - Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, Kristofferson, Possum, Elvis, Ernie Ford and on and on...plus his own hits.
Talented as hell and twice as crazy. Watch the Tales from the Tourbus episode about him for some good laughs

His son Eddie was an incredible guitar player ! Sadly, he died young of a heroin overdose.

He was a character for sure. Watch the Norm McDonald interview.
I'll add this - while he might have been a real outlaw, he was a good guy too. I introduced my son (he was 5 or 6 at the time) to him at a local restaurant while he was in town visiting friends. I apologized for interrupting, but he stood up from his chair, shook our hands and visited with my son for a couple of minutes.
My right hand was mangled in an accident years ago. Shaking his hand was interesting.

Judge: Where did you shoot him, Mr Shaver?
Billy Joe: Right between the f- - - and you

Storyteller: Live At The Bluebird 1992 is one of my favorites.
Outlaw Country-Austin City Limits is a fantastic watch. It’s Billy Joe Shaver, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kimmie Rhodes

Dale Watson wrote a song about Billy Joe shooting a man who was giving him trouble at a bar.
Great bar by the way, Pappa Joe’s in Lorena, TX.
