Going to Sandals Royal Bahamian this weekend with family on a work trip. Travel agent said don't leave resort. Probably won't but have group that want to go shopping out in Bahamas.

For anyone that has been recently, is it safe to go day shopping around the area? Won't go clubbing or anything like that, just day shopping.

Safe? Any recs?

I’m not sure where that resort is located, but Nassau is supposedly rough. The other islands in the Bahamas aren’t that bad.

I’ve been all over Nassau. No issues.

there's an entire strip of stores lined up by the cruise terminals to catch cruisers with a ton of crappy stores that normally fill that desire. Those are extremely safe and likely to be full of tourists during the day. Not sure what "shopping" you are referring to though.

Just mainly for the women in our group who want to go shopping. I think they have heard Straw Market and Bay Street. Not sure, I was just trying to make sure I'm not on local news for family goes missing cause wife wanted to buy cheap trinkets.

Yes it's safe. It isn't Africa. I've been to parts of Mexico where there is no English spoken at all and all over Jamaica. No issues other than language.

My wife and I took a cab from Atlantis to a big market and Fish Fry. The driver sat outside and waited to make sure we rode back with him. Apparently, it's pretty competitive for the cabbies to get customers. Anyway we're headed back and the cabby stops and another guy jumps in the passenger seat, I figured we were gonna die. Turns out it was a friend of the driver who needed a ride and he turned into a pretty good tour guide. He told us the history of just about everything we passed including Anna Nicole Smith's grave.
