Plaquemines Parish Residents - May 3 Please go vote (insane sales and use tax)

Plaquemines Sheriff Gerald Turlich, Jr. wants a new sales tax that could give the Sheriff $32 Million per year! Initial tax at .25 percent but he would be authorized to raise it to a full 1 percent after only a year. Who thinks that won't happen?
Claims it is for pay raises but that amount would result in a pay increase to all employees of about $380,000 per year. Receptionist is a nice gig if you can get it, eh?
The tax has no expiration term and would be perpetual (forever, duh). Your children and grandchildren will spit on your grave if you leave this to them. Of course, the sheriff's employees and simpletons are "supporting the PPSO". Best get your butts out to vote "No".
Full text:
"Shall the Law Enforcement District of the Parish of Plaquemines, State of Louisiana (the "District"), be authorized to levy and collect a sales and use tax (the "Tax") in perpetuity, commencing July 1, 2025, in accordance with Louisiana law, with the proceeds of the Tax (after paying reasonable and necessary costs and expenses of collecting and administering the Tax) to be dedicated and used to pay salaries and benefits of law enforcement personnel and other costs of operating and supporting the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office, with the Tax to be initially levied at the rate of 0.25% (an estimated $8,000,000 reasonably expected to be collected from the levy of the Tax for an entire year), which can be increased by the District up to a maximum rate of 1.00% at any time on or after July 1, 2026?"

This board loves consumption taxes, should be an easy yes. You’re already saving all that money in income taxes anyway.

Better than a Property Tax where a small percentage pays the most.

Good. Maybe Plaquemines Parish can use some of that money to repay the taxpayers in the rest of the state for the $500 million we're going to have flushed down the drain because some of your local officials got the Mid-Barataria Diversion project killed.

You might as well sell the entire East Bank to St Bernard

The Sheriff is an independent office created by the state. He doesn't have to share with anyone or be answerable to anyone. Surely he would love to have $32 Million a year to spend as he pleases. That's a lot of money that is not needed for any legitimate purpose, regardless of whose pocket it is being taken from. Buy your bait, food, and fuel before you to go to fish.

More of the usual. Pay attention or get screwed by greedy politicians.
