How can someone be a college baseball umpire?

My god he sucked tonight for both teams. One batter it’s a ball next batter a strike. Next inning it’s a strike then a ball

I didn't get to watch the comeback in real time so lsu was still down when I went to church.
I just watched the highlights on YouTube and holy shite that was a blatantly awful call. Dude should ride the pine and not ump the rest of the year

Give this clown an earpiece to let him know what to call, balls or strikes. Never was a fan of this but I am now. Ridiculous inconsistency BS has to be done away with.

College umpires make $400-$500 a game, and call 3 or 4 games a week, obviously only during the season, so there’s no scenario where you can get full time professionals. Knowing that, the NCAA, should avail itself of every bit of technology to assist them in being accurate.

I felt that there was more than one occasion he rang someone up because they headed to 1st base before he made his call on a full count. 1 time to us and twice on Bama batters

Yeah he was bad but I'll say the hardest part (by far) of the strike zone to call is the lower limit. The line changes for every batter, you have to call it where it first crosses the plate when some breaking balls are diving so the catcher catches it much lower than where it crossed the plate. And the main reason it's hard is you can't get your eye level down to get a good look at it. It requires an umps perception of where the ball was

The Auburn home plate umps were just as bad.
