Trump administration will freeze $2 billion after Harvard refuses demands

On Monday afternoon, Harvard became the first university to directly refuse to comply with the administration. By the evening, federal officials said they would freeze $2.2 billion in multiyear grants to Harvard, along with a $60 million contract
My first thought is why in the frick are we giving Harvard $2.2 billion? This is a small institution that caters to America’s wealthiest children. If anything came out of the DEI case against them it’s that they cater to the children of wealthy families and alumni.
They have an endowment of $53.2 billion. They don’t need federal grant money.

No government — regardless of which party is in power — should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue,” said Alan Garber, Harvard’s president, in a statement to the university on Monday.
I actually happen to agree with her. But my counter to that would be “you don’t need our fricking money.”

Hopefully Harvard fails as an institution and has to close their doors permanently. frick them.

Her point is valid. If they want to be independent, they don’t need tax payers money.
It would be an even bigger hit if the Government didn’t back student loans for universities that don’t abide.

Good on Harvard for standing up to this regime. At least they still believe in free speech. We need more institutions willing to not bend the knee.

Refund this money to taxpayers and see how they react

The deal is: you take the money, you do what the person giving you the money wants. You want to be independent? Use your own money and knock yourself out. You can’t have it both ways.

I am fine with the “not bending the knee.” They can do whatever they want. As she pointed out, they are a private institution. Which circles around to my original point. Why are they receiving $2.2 billion of United States funding?
They have an endowment of $53.2 billion. With a bullet. If the purpose of educational grants is to broaden and ensure the educational success of our nation, why isn’t this money going to public state schools, junior colleges, or God forbid vocational schools? You know… People who actually need the fricking money.

I think you're missing the point. Sort of like NPR, if you're going to espoused anti American, socialistic views and policies, you can have your grossly overfunded federal money pulled.

You mean anti-Israel. That said, I'm fine with it, but don't cry when a lib swings their weight around the same way.
