Matt Shakman on Reed and Sue:

“If he is the most scientifically intelligent person, then she is the most emotionally intelligent person on the planet. Between the two of them, they're building an idealistic society.”

quote:

Vanessa Kirby on portraying Sue Storm as a multifaceted woman in ‘THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS:’

“I've always been really interested in the mess of femininity, and how can you be both? How can you be all the things? Not just the tough, invincible, powerful woman, but also a mother who gives birth, which is itself a superhero act. I love that these characters are real humans in a messy family who argue and try to work it out and get things wrong."

quote:

Ebon Moss-Bachrach says playing Ben Grimm / The Thing in ‘THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS’ “felt like home” to him:

“Jack Kirby wrote this character [of Ben Grimm] as a bit of an homage to his father, and to the streets that he grew up on. I’m a New Yorker, and I’ve spent a lot of time on Essex Street, on Delancey, on Clinton. So it does feel like home to me, and the production did a beautiful job recreating that. It was so cool to walk down and see the hat seller and the fish seller. I was shocked that we were outside of London because it fully felt like the Lower East Side.”

Pedro Pascal says Galactus is “a scale of threat which Reed has never experienced” in ‘THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS:’

"Even the smartest man in the world is awestruck by a being that outdates his understanding of time."

quote:

Pedro Pascal says it was intimidating to bring Reed Richards to life in ‘THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS’ because he wants to make people happy with his adaptation: “I relied on the people that I was around to hold me to the experience and help get me through it… They're all scary because you really want to make people happy, especially if it's something that's widely known with particular expectations around it because you want those expectations to be met. You also want to be authentic to yourself so that it can be the best that it can be for anybody who wants to be entertained by a story and travel with us into this world.”

quote:

Sue Storm is the Head of the Future Foundation working to “achieving global political peace” in ‘THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS.’

"Pedro Pascal ... the smartest man in the world..." Suspension of disbelief has limits. This violates them.

If Silver Surfer is your favorite character, you should at least be aware that this isn’t some gender bent version of Norrin Radd. Julia Garner is playing Shalla-Bal, the wife of Norrin Radd in the comics dating back to Surfer’s first appearance. She even becomes the Silver Surfer at different points in the comics, and the entire reason Norrin Radd agrees to become Galactus’ herald is to protect his wife.

This story begins in an alternate universe way different from anything we’ve seen in the MCU thus far. Shakman clearly has a ton of respect for the source material here and is a huge F4 nerd. Norrin Radd will definitely be showing up at some point imo.

Shalla-Bal is the Silver Surfer for about two panels in Universe X, so yeah, she was the Silver Surfer for about fifteen seconds.

That's a lot of words to simply say Disney is race swapping SS. Why jump through all those hoops to explain it?

If every actor and setting was centered perfectly in the frame, this would be a Wes Anderson film.

Are you saying she’s going to be gold or bronze instead of silver?

I wasn’t jumping through hoops. I’m pointing out to the crowd that flies into every Disney/Marvel thread screaming woke, that what they are doing with Silver Surfer isn’t just random gender swapping like they did with Taskmaster or the Ancient One for example

Imagine if she had that accent too

Apparently they showed the 2nd trailer at CinemaCon last week and Surfer was in it very heavily per people in attendance.

Also commented on Johnny as well

quote:

He is really smart," Shakman says. "He's on that spaceship for a reason, and I think sometimes people forget that in various comic stories, he's been one of the most heroic of them, even if he's undercutting his heroism at every turn through humor. He's Sue's brother, which means they are cut from similar cloth."
