They’re trying to amend their parish’s open enrollment to make new high school students able to attend anywhere they want, but only be eligible to play sports where they’re zoned, even if it’s not where they’re attending… (current students would be grandfathered in)

this would be like dividing by zero as far as the LHSAA is concerned

As one of our esteemed posters says, they don’t own the kids

It has seemed to help ASH football and Pineville softball the most. They came from being absolutely nothing to two of the top teams in the state. Not sure why they'd want to do this unless ASH is just walking into schools and openly recruiting players away from other programs. I doubt that's happening.

Let’s be fair though. ASH went to the Dome (what happened there notwithstanding), that’s the biggest recruiting tool there is

JJ you’re in 2-5A with them… how much of their enrollments (ASH and/or Pineville mainly) do you think comes from those districts?

They are much more talented than they've been in the past. That doesn't mean they recruit them. Could just be their turn to have athletes coming through the school. Ruston had 2 historic classes that just came through and left. WM has definitely had their fair share of that with the Pearsons being their for roughly a decade straight as well as Federico and Hawsey. None of those kids were recruited for any of the schools listed. I am seeing a lot of what is said on that other board you frequent. Losing the best RB in the nation doesn't seem like a big deal to those posters.

Maybe but they got to the championship game in the COVID year without him too… thats how confident they are that they’ll reload

They’re select because almost every athlete in a fairly big area can come to them (and there’s no real competition now that Many is done, if they ever were competition)

How is Peabody not a football power?
Do they just not care?

It’s always been about basketball there. They don’t care about football

Rapides parish basically is split in which schools really excel at what. Ash football, Peabody basketball, pineville softball(Buckeye and Menard mixed in an little) and somewhat tioga baseball.

What happened to ASH powerlifting? They were a NATIONAL power and I didn't see them this past weekend at State at all.

Interesting. In Ga., whatever school you start your freshman year at is the place you're eligible for any sport. Once you switch schools you have to have a legit move or file for a hardship.

When I was in high school, (late 70s), we were in the same district as Peabody and Pineville.
Peabody was Peabody, and Pineville had the Tudor brothers, who both played D1 basketball.
So we'd wind up 23-5 or whatever, and miss the playoffs, because in those days, only first and second in the district made the playoffs.

They stopped caring about it and focused on football from what my cousin who was just at ASH told me. Which to me doesn’t make sense because you can build up your guys with powerlifting in the offseason.

Pretty accurate. Menard has been usually solid at baseball over the years and will have a few good football teams sprinkled in. Hallman had them on a run in the late 2000’s/early 2010’s.

Ponchatoula had the legendary 2021-22 senior class that saw 8 players go on to play D-I football.

They should be able to attend school where they want but have to play sports in their zoned school.

Or they can go private and pay for the privilege.

Let’s say you’re at a school across town (because it’s all about academics after all) but you’re eligible to play where you don’t go. Practice is after school. They gonna let kids play who can’t get there?

And let’s say a kid lives in Pineville’s zone but goes to ASH… he can’t play at ASH but he can play at Menard if he goes there? This is the kind of bullshite you’d expect from Jefferson Parish

I wish we’d thought of this… you live in our zone and dont go to us you play nowhere lol
