Is Marruci developing a metal Torpedo bat?

A lot has been made of the “Torpedo” bats the Yankee’s have been using this year.. If I’m Woody / Jay I am on the horn with Marruci every 15 min until the tigers have a full bat rack of these things…The Marruci bats have been kind of a let down this year with many on here noticing they may be a little flat. This could certainly help. Pic for reference Incase you’ve been living under a rock.

You think LSU should start using wooden bats?
Posted on 3/30/25 at 10:35 am to deathvalleyfreak43
They better be developing a wood model or they gonna lose a lot of business at professional level

No they need to develop a metal version

Why? Metal and wood are completely different materials. They are increasing the diameter and mass of the wood in the hitting zone of the wooden bat while maintaining weight and length. Metal bats can be optimized with other material and construction techniques while maintaining a large hitting area all the way to the end of the bat.

There are strict regulations on metal bats these days. Also, I suspect when these new bats start splintering and shattering at an increased rate in MLB, that they'll be prohibited.
I'm curious if the Baseball Bat Bros have used one of these.

They probably won’t be after this year.

I bet they ban them sooner than that. They’re ridiculous. Obviously smart on the Yankees for finding an advantage loophole within the rules but it will be closed quickly

Would they ban them midseason?

Wouldn’t shock me.

have you seen the tech LSU (and Marrucci) have in their hitting lab. do you really think they wouldn’t have data showing this if it was true in any meaningful way?

Marucci bats are definitely middle of the pack now in college. Louisville Rawlings Demarini have all passed them. They need to develop an end loaded bat like The Goods for power hitters.

I don't think they can do that.

Major League Baseball has relatively uncomplicated bat rules, stating under Rule 3.02: "The bat shall be a smooth, round stick not more than 2.61 inches in diameter at the thickest part and not more than 42 inches in length. The bat shall be one piece of solid wood." It goes on to state there may be a cupped indentation up to 1¼ inches in depth, 2 inches wide and with at least a 1-inch diameter, and experimental models must be approved by MLB.

It was designed by a rocket scientist from MIT and will probably be patented by the Yankees.

If leagues ban them, it won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on
