Killed him at 15 steps at 11:00 on the nose. He is the heaviest bird I’ve ever taken at 24 lbs 11 oz according to my hunting partners fish scale he keeps in his tool box. 1 3/16” and 1” spurs. 10” beard. Good luck to all this season!

Turkeys 1-me nothing. I had 3 turkeys gobble pretty much nonstop from 6:30-8:30 and saw 7 hens. Basically they were in the field for almost half that time. I tried everything I could think off, but they would not step into the damn field. It is like its radioactive. But then hens were in in all am. I had a tom gobbling like crazy 150 yards away and live hens clucking etc and he still would not come. He gobbled 8 times in a row multiple times, I tried limited soft calling mostly, only responding after he gobbled 3 or more timed and he was going nuts but he must of had his arse kicked pretty bad. (Zero chance I could sneak up on him as he was in the swamp) I think the Dominant bird was gobbling first but I think he got henned up as all the hens came from that road.

I actually had 3 of Toms gobbling at each other for about 5 minutes. It was a really fun othetr than not getting a bird. They shut down hard at 8:30.

I fricked up setting up on this field, I knew better but it was so foggy etc, I couldn't get them to shock gobble in am at all so this was my fall back. Typically have a good shot between 9-12 but they disappeared today.

Congratulations to everyone who got one today!

When I first grabbed him I knew he was heavy but after walking out the first 100 yards and having to swap arms several times, I came to to conclusion I was old and out of shape, and this bird was hefty. My buddy hunts about 10 minutes from me and I knew he had a scale. I had to know what he weighed. I honestly have never weighed any previous turkeys before this one.

I’m going to commemorate by getting a matching set of wing bone calls made.

Great bird!

I decided to take a quick weekend trip for my first AL hunt in a couple weeks and really looking forward to it. I think I’ve narrowed it down to the NW part of the state.
