Beaver all day. If BREC limited the old fart marshalls taking up all the tee times and also reduced the amount of traffic on the course, it could be a jewel.

If you've seen either recently that answer is simple...

Might as well make a full list ranking local courses lol.

I haven’t played all of them recently so just going on general conditions and enjoyment.

CCL
Pelican Point
BRCC
UClub
Greystone
Island
Beaver
Copper Mill
Santa Maria
Webb
Dumas

Again, this is with limited knowledge of current conditions and personal preferences that includes practice areas, familiarity, layout, etc. I have never played Fenwood, didn’t include 9-hole courses, and Carter seems a little bit out of area.

BRCC should be 1. By far best shape of any golf course in louisiana. Layout is not anything crazy but greens are incredible and the green surronds are incredible. Cannot believe pelican point is listen above it

It’s certainly #1 for shape in the area, not sure about the whole state. Squire is unmatched imo. But I hate the layout and the oaks tight on the fairways (unless they removed them). I haven’t played it for a couple years so I’m sure there have been updates. I enjoyed it during my practice rounds and state am. It’s a great walking course. I have more fun at Pelican with the variety and difficulty of shots with greens that are usually in great shape. Curious how the green updates go. They’re getting ride of the champion (and all that grain!)

Ranking PP over BRCC is questionable but I will admit PP hole layout is a ton better! I always play well at PP and BRCC eats my lunch. I can never catch a break at that course.

It’s a weird situation. If I had a choice of memberships, I’d take BRCC because it’s always in good shape. If I’m playing a place all the time, shape is more important and they have the resources. But if I’m playing a round with the boys and looking to enjoy myself and the golf, I’d go to Pelican for that one round. The tight back and forth just isn’t interesting. Someone told me this once and I can’t get it out of my head… it’s Howell Park with CCL’s conditions.

Hmm… someone told me something similar about Oakbourne in Lafayette. I never thought of it that way.

In order of preference:

CCL
BRCC
Beaver Creek
UClub
Santa Maria
Pelican Point
Greystone
Island
Copper Mill
Webb
Dumas

While I agree Santa Maria could be in better shape, the layout is great and lots of beautiful holes and challenging shots. Listing it behind Copper Mill? No chance.

Copper has the best layout of them all. 6/6/6 is so much fun especially when you’re betting. I actually don’t like Santa’s layout that much.

They were close. It’s actually Webb with money. Conditions are impeccable (better than CCL), but BRCC and Webb are basically the same track. The same drainage ditch runs through both of them. Just one is covered.

I would pick Beaver over (almost) every public course in the state.

Great practice area, actual grass range, challenging but rewarding layout, always in better condition and much less traffic than Santa Maria.

Its the easiest driving course you can play. Only 12 is a truly difficult driving hole and even it is pretty easy to hit if you go with the right club. I don’t find it challenging at all. Great for new golfers though. Very little trouble from hole to hole.

It can be challenging if you're struggling off the tee. Equal number of penalizing tee shots for a left or right miss.

I love Beaver but this is certainly not a word I would use to describe the course.

Beaver is the course I like to book after a humbling experience at U Club.

I've always found 13 & 14 more problematic than 12.. 12 is always 7w or hybrid off the tee me.

Just about every hole can be missed left or right unless you completely slice or duck hook. 1, 2, 5, 6, 10, 11, 13, 16, 18… all with very little penalty if you choose to hit the club that takes you to the widest part of the fairway. I rarely lose a ball out there. Now, you a hack wants to hit driver 14 times, I can see where he struggles. But I guarantee that same player would shoot much worse on any of the other courses on this list.
