Will they ever see the money?

(Reuters) — Greenpeace must pay a Texas-based pipeline company nearly $667 million in damages for the environmental advocacy group’s role in 2016-2017 protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota, a jury said Wednesday.

The verdict in North Dakota state court came after two days of deliberations in a trial where pipeline company Energy Transfer accused Greenpeace of paying protesters to disrupt construction of the pipeline unlawfully and spreading falsehoods about the controversial project, located near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. The verdict included damages for defamation, trespassing and conspiracy. The jury awarded more than $400 million in punitive damages, which are intended to punish defendants for their conduct.

Greenpeace denied wrongdoing and called the case an attack on free speech rights. The group’s lawyers said they would appeal Wednesday’s verdict. “We’re an advocacy group. We engage in peaceful protest,” said Greenpeace attorney Deepa Padmanabha, asserting that the group only played a minor role in the demonstrations.

Energy Transfer lawyer Trey Cox said in a statement that Greenpeace’s “violent and destructive” protests were not legally protected speech. “Today, the jury delivered a resounding verdict, declaring Greenpeace’s actions wrong, unlawful, and unacceptable by societal standards. It is a day of reckoning and accountability for Greenpeace,” Cox said.

I imagine between this and USAID getting gutted that the "financial viability" of Greenpeace ain't as bright as it used to be.

Will it though…

They will likely file for bankruptcy like the Catholic Church but with no assets and reform under a new variation of GreenPeace.

Looking at their 990 from 2023, they don't have near that kind of money.

What about Greenpeace international and Greenpeace Fund? They were named in the lawsuit too.

Organizations like this and the stop oil idiots don’t understand that by being antagonistic assholes, they’re pushing people away from their cause and making a mockery of it

And it’s a shame, because we actually should have a conversation about where we put pipelines, where we drill, etc. But if the conversation starts with some unhinged white woman screaming in my face about how awful I am for literally driving in a car, then frick you and your cause.

Greenpeace Inc had net assets of just under 5 million
Greenpeace Fund had net assets of 39 million

Not sure about international.

Hopefully this extends to every nonsense leftwing NGO full time activist group. I cannot believe the number of people available to participate in the nonsense they conduct relentlessly.

It's always Joe the taxpayer getting bombarded bt the activists, never the people who fund their movements (wealthy celebrities and other dynastic family enterprises like the Kelloggs, Rockefellers, Jobs, and Pritzkers).

The jury found Greenpeace USA must pay the bulk of the damages, nearly $404 million, while Greenpeace Fund Inc. and Greenpeace International would each pay roughly $131 million.

Standing Rock looks to be renamed to a more eco-sensitive name like Scattered Trash.
