Earlier this year, Pope Francis selected liberal Cardinal Robert McElroy of San Diego to succeed the retiring Cardinal Wilton Gregory as Archbishop of Washington. Gregory is the Catholic leader in the nation’s capital who would never take Biden to task for his aggression abortion promotion.

McElroy is a liberal Catholic who has made headlines for supporting the administration of Holy Communion to Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, even though they are ardent abortion activists.

He came under fire years ago for approving communion for radical pro-abortion Democrat Nancy Pelosi despite her 10% pro-abortion record and dozens of times refusing to allow a vote on a bill to stop infanticide.

In defending communion for pro-abortion politicians, McElroy argued in a May 2021 piece for the Jesuit magazine America that the Eucharist is “being weaponized” for political purposes.

“The proposal to exclude pro-choice Catholic political leaders from the Eucharist is the wrong step. It will bring tremendously destructive consequences — not because of what it says about abortion, but because of what it says about the Eucharist,” he said.

McElroy argued in the piece that the church cannot test each individual Catholic for rejecting a significant teaching.

“How many Catholic political leaders of either party could pass that test? And because any notion of eucharistic unworthiness in the theology of the church must apply not just to political leaders but to all Catholics, how many of the faithful will be eligible for the Eucharist by this criterion?”

His words came after Archbishop of the San Francisco Archdiocese Salvatore Cordileone ordered in a letter that clergyman within his diocese bar Pelosi from receiving communion due to the “grave evil she is perpetrating” through her support of abortion.

Catholic teaching states “conscious of grave sin” is not permitted to receive communion or celebrate Mass “without previous sacramental confession,” according to the Vatican’s code on Canon Law. The Church teaches that “human life begins at conception” and that abortion is “gravely wrong” and a “moral evil,” according to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Pelosi reportedly received communion at a May 22 mass held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown, Politico Playbook first reported. The church’s pastor, Father Kevin Gillepsie, said in 2021 that he would allow Biden to take Holy Communion since he is a “man of faith.” Then-Vice President Biden was denied communion in South Carolina by Father Robert E. Morey for his abortion stance in 2019.

“Everyone is welcome,” he said. “He’s a man of faith, and I would give Communion to him like any other Catholic coming up for the Eucharist.”

I'm not Catholic but I hope the College of Cardinals makes a better selection next time.

Hasn't shithead been picking all the Cardinals since he was anointed?

The U.S. Catholic Church should break away if they get another shithead.

I am not Catholic either, but I guess I could call myself one since I am as much as your typical cafeteria Catholic. I am not actively religious, but I choose what I believe as individual one-offs, just like they do.

You can't be a dyed in the wool Liberal and be Catholic, to completely conflicting ideologies unless you're put in that position to change the Catholic Church.

The U.S. Catholic Church (particularly most of the U.S. cardinals) is part of the problem.

McElroy of course doesn't mention the part about individuals not being able to receive Communion in a state of grave sin.

Cradle Catholic here.

This is what grinds my gears.

They dismiss politicians actions on abortion, cover up sexual abuse

Yet get haughty about illegal immigration, Covid vaccines, and IVF

It's like the Pope and Cardinals are doing their best to try my patience and make me quit

So shear off another layer of "leadership".

Haven't Protestant denominations been doing that - splitting from national leaders?

Robert McElroy belongs in prison for his protecting of the convicted rapist, "Father" Bertrand. Naturally, that gets him promoted by "holy father" Bergoglio, who himself, reinstated the excommunicated "father" RAPEnick.

The word "Catholic" derives from the Greek word "katholikos," which means "universal" or "all-encompassing."

We are all sinners. No one deserves to receive the Eucharist. We don't get to decide who God extends grace to. We also don't know that goes on the confessional.

Pelosi is a vile person and is need of the Body of Christ.

It's a generation things among priests. Supposedly a lot of the younger priests are a lot more traditionalist and conservative.

The U.S. Catholic Church would simply be one amongst a sea of thousands of Protestant denominations at that point.

Which is the logical conclusion of

quote:

I choose what I believe as individual one-offs

Which is the logical result of sola scriptura.

very true, Christ giving us Himself is a wonderful gift that is grossly underappreciated.

true, and thank Goodness, I don't want to hear it.

She, like every other belieiver in Christ, needs to repent and confess her sins. I don't presume to know what happens between her soul and God.

The problem is:

she has caused public scandal with her support of abortion, her robbery of the American people by her insider trading, and other flaming public sins. Since her sins are public, and since she's a high profile person, she needs to publicly renounce those sins and the scandal they have caused among the faithful BEFORE she is eligible to receive the Eucharist.

She's an old woman in grave sin, and her time is running out. I pray she repents.

1 Corinthians 11:23-29

For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord.

A person should examine himself,* and so eat the bread and drink the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.

JPII and Benedict made a bunch of Cardinals who voted in the Francis clown. So I guess there's hope the pendulum swings.

I don't think many will know the story of "Father" Jacob Bertrand, a vile satanic raping pervert, is particularly well known.

Cardinal McElroy's efforts to shield the Bertrand monster is a monster of a scandal.
