In 9th grade, we had a substitute in History. Frank Kennedy locked her out of the room as she stood in the hallway before class. He then jumped up on a desk and did the whole Greased Lightning scene from Grease. He and I and Jug Dugas and Rochelle Bartholmey were the only white people in the class innit. And Rochelle was mullato, so she probably didn’t count. But she did let me touch one of her tiddys behind the candy stand at recess one day. It felt just as white as the only other one I had touched up until that time.

I appreciate the legitimate question. Jug hailed from backatown and was a tick above nonverbal, as most Dugases. One of the few identifiable noises he could make sounded a lot like the word “Jug”. What his given name was, was known only to Jesus and Mrs. Spalding, counselor and local mirliton farmer.
