2021 revised season

Let’s play a hypothetical game in O’s final season at LSU
Let’s say the following 3 one score games went our way:
Auburn, Bama and Arkansas.
That puts LSU at 9-3 with a shot at 10 wins with the bowl. O stays and Kelly never comes. We write off 2020. Does O ever get things going again or was he truly a flash in the pan?

Does this really need to be asked? Look at his track record as a HC, and tell me what you think.

These are the threads we get after we cancel a baseball game.

Flash in the pan. 3 things dictate the staying power of a successful program for a head coach.
1) Hire good coordinators/assistant coaches
2) Manage your roster well from a balance perspective
3) Establish a winning culture with winning habits
Ed struggled with every one of these towards the end. We ended up with unproven coordinators, loaded positions on some parts of the roster and paper thin at others and culture issues that I'm not sure ever got right after the BLM stuff. It would've continued to get worse. Ed couldn't manage the roster pre NIL and transfer portal. Could you imagine if our plan for NIL was still being QB'd by Derek Ponamsky instead of Austin Thomas? Ed had an amazing season but eventually the warts started to show and it all disintegrated on him.

Is he still chasing blondes? That was his downfall, not the 1 score games
They announced they were moving on from him after the 3-3 start. In your scenario, he would’ve been 4-2 & then 4-3. They probably still move on from him

Interesting question. Still, O got lightning in a bottle in 2019 and that isn't being hyperbolic.

Now do Urban Meyer and tell me why no one hires him

Ed Orgeron would've continued to drive LSU into the ground. Doesn't take away from what he accomplished in 2019, but this idea that Ed deserved another year to get it right is just wishful thinking. The guy got up to the podium and said he didn't interview his coordinator and Derek Ponamsky is the point man on NIL. For two of the most important roles on his staff, he hired a coordinator that he didn't even meet and a radio guy to be the GM of the program. Anyone who argues he had the chops to turn it around are just fooling themselves.

Well, for one thing Urban doesn't wanna coach anymore. Urban also had success quite literally everywhere he went in college football. Ed had one good stretch with a generational QB.

But the decision to fire O came after the Kentucky game, so Bama and Ark win never would have mattered.

SEC East from 2005 to 2010 was softer than charmin.
Big 10 from 2013-2018 most talented opponent each year was a James Franklin coached Penn State team. Maybe 1-2 decent Wisconsin teams.
Who would lose to USC or TCU in Rose Bowl.
Urban Meyer is the most overrated HC in CFB History. But i think if O goes 9-3 in 2021. he keeps his job.
2020 was weird with Covid and your best WR opting out.
-Joe Brady claiming he was staying with LSU and then 2 months later leaving... that was a kick in the balls that no one ever talks about.
2021 was bad when Brennan wore flip flops on the charter 1 month prior to season opener which led to:

Sure wish we had a national championship winning caliber coach like O
We are stuck with that dumb Yankee CBK

he quit Florida twice and Ohio State once with “health issues” then got fired from Jacksonville for off field issues.
so people not wanting him is all about issues outside of actual on field coaching results.

O’s issues were deeper than that.
once the infrastructure that he inherited left, the program rapidly began looking like the one he “built” at Ole Miss.

If Urban Meyer said today that he was ready to coach college football he would be at the top of the list for just about every opening in college football. What were you trying to get at with that question?

So you minimize the achievements of what Urban did, and then justify the failures of Orgeron. You have a clear agenda. Are you related to Pirate King and Tiger Ree?

O would have been chasing coordinators until he eventually got fired. He couldn't even get guys to interview for the DC job in 2021 and the OC hires weren't great either. The man was a good recruiter that caught lightning in a bottle.

He has the same number of National Championships at Ohio State as Ryan Day so yea.
and I only agree with OP that in the case we go 9-3 in 2021 O wouldve saved his job.
people don't talk enough about how much of a kick in the nuts losing brady was after him initially stating he was signing extension. then losing Chase in opt out. that's a huge blow to 2020 that i think woulve been easily over looked if we go 9-3 in 2021.

This dude is seriously criticizing Urban while making excuses for Orgeron.
This dude really picked a multiple championship coach to make himself feel better about O flaming out haha

So what? Ed had multiple chances to hire other proven coordinators and flopped everytime. As soon as he didn’t have Slinger and Aranda running the program for him, his flaws showed and we all realized he was still the same Col Rebel Ed.
