Heading there in late March. Anything a must do or must eat? Curious about sports bars too since I’ll be down during March madness. Any help is appreciated.

Must hop on the ferry and spend a day on St. John. Then you'll want to go there on your next trip.

Stay away from Charlotte Amalie and particularly on days when cruise ships are in town.

Where are you staying?

We’re staying at Bluebeards

Which appears to be right next to Charlotte Amalie

What’s the issue there?

There are some bad sections to avoid and the cruise ship herd overruns the area when they're in port which is a lot as St. Thomas is the most visited cruise ship destination in the world.

St. Tomas Cruise Ship Schedule

The link will give you how many ships are to be in port on what days.

You'll enjoy St. Thomas but you'll love St. John.

Definitely have to take a barge to St. John for at least one day. The beaches and overall vibe are awesome on St. John. I always recommend Trunk Bay and Maho Bay on St. John as far as beaches. Also have to eat at Skinny Legs on St. John. Magen's Bay on St. Thomas is beautiful. I have been to both and definitely prefer St. John so sorry I do not have many recs for St. Thomas but you will have fun no matter what you do.

We usually stay on the East side of the island so I’m not familiar with Bluebeards. As far as beaches Megan’s Bay is beautiful. Coki Beach is another good one but can get busy. If you want to get away from the crowds and also see some sea turtles then I highly recommend Brewers Beach near the airport. You can also find them at Maho Beach on St John but we haven’t been as lucky to spot them there.

It's been 11 years since I've been so I'm not sure how much has changed, but Magen's Bay is worth a day trip and was the best beach we visited. We stayed in Red Hook and spent most of our time in St. John. The ferry ride over is easy but make sure you don't miss the last one coming back to St. Thomas. Trunk Bay had some decent snorkeling. Cruz Bay in St. John has a couple nice bars overlooking the water. Duffy's Love Shack was a fun bar in St. Thomas with good vibes. Another fun spot a local took us to in St. John was Woody's Seafood Saloon. Overall, it was a great trip (we went for Spring Break at LSU) but I've been wanting to go back.

ETA: If I could do it again, I would stay in St. John and visit BVI. I didn't have a passport at the time.

Cruz Bay (St. John)

Magen's Bay (St. Thomas)

Trunk Bay (St. John)

The other thing I will add is to charter a boat to go over to St. John for snorkeling. You can have lunch on the water at Pizza Pi St. Thomas or The Lime Out St. John.

On St. Thomas Mountaintop is worth a visit for the views and a banana dacquiri. Again, try to avoid cruise ship days as it will be overrun with cruisers on those days.

If you daytrip to St. John and go to Trunk Bay you can purchase lunch there. Not a great lunch, but luinch nonetheless. Over 60% of St. John is national park and there are some great hiking treails there. From Cruz Bay you can hike to Honeymoon Beach.

Fish bar is my favourite restaurant in st Thomas. There are a few burger joints called tap n still that would be good for March madness and also any bar at any of the resorts would have it on.

Beaches :

Magens
Hull Bay
Secret harbor

Definitely take a charter to some great snorkling spots, then head over to Jost Van Dyke, BVI. Lot's of fun to be had on the beach around the Soggy Dollar Bar.

Spent a week on Tortola last October, went to Jost & Virgin Gorda as well as all over Tortola.

All three (or any one of the three) are recommended.

I always recommend St. John over St. Thomas. Both are beautiful but St. Thomas is more touristy where St. John is more beaches due to it mostly being a national park. I always recommend Maho Bay on St. John. Great snorkeling and you're guaranteed to see sea turtles. Trunk Bay was voted best beach on the planet in 2024 and for good reason. Absolutely beautiful but can get crowded. Skinny Legs is a must do for lunch and Colombo's is a good breakfast spot. 1864 is a great dinner spot. It has been a few years since I have been but it was great and I want to go back when my daughters are older. Also, if you want to do some charter fishing Just Fish was fantastic and relatively cheap. Definitely my favorite place I have been so far. Always jealous when people come on here and say they are going. You will love it.
