First Time Homeowner - New Sod to Fairway Feeling grass

Just bought a brand new house, has fresh sod laid, not sure of the type of sod but assume the cheapest that the builder could get their hands on.
Looking to have a backyard you can walk barefoot in, nice fairway feeling grass.
I'm all about process just need some guidance on where to start and what to do to to get closer to that dream yard.

Probably centipede. Not the worst but certainly not fairway grass.

you can walk barefoot in any well maintained turfgrass without weeds. not all of them feel like a golf fairway though.
You most likely have st aug or centipede sod, neither or which are going to produce "fairway feeling" grass. In that case, you'd have to re-sod the area with a different grass to get the fairway feeling, like bermuda.
there are tons of threads on this board for getting a lawn of various grass types in tip-top shape

bermuda needs a lot of sun but i am pretty happy with how it has taken over my yard now. I rather the shade but the good lord and the morons who planted water oaks took that from me.

You want Palisades Zoysia if you are looking for the best you can find.

If your back yard receives full sun, which is about 7-8 hours, go with a hybrid Bermuda if you can afford to sod the whole backyard.
If you have less than full sun and some shade (house / trees blocking sun), you should go with Zoysia. Palisades is a great choice.
If you truly want fairway feeling and are willing to put in the work, get a reel mower and mow twice a week. I use a 7 blade Earthwise.

Love my palisades. When it's growing in the summer it feels like you're walking on a cloud. Been pretty easy to maintain except the common bermuda spots that crop up in it. Absolutely make sure you round up the existing grass before sodding. Maybe 3 or 4 times for good measure.
