I’m sure a first year coach on a bad team is going to spend a first round pick on a player solely based on going to the same college.

If he's a great player I wouldn't completely melt although I'd rather take a guy in the 2nd/3rd. It's a luxury we can't afford but we also just need high level players as we have very few that aren't very long in the tooth.
We currently have Kamara who is over 30 and a handful of unexplosive plodding shite at the RB position. We need some juice.
I DO think the best way to return to being really competitive on offense is to be a more power based team until we have our QB of the future with hopefully a higher ceiling than Carr. So if that means focusing on the lines and the running game then more power to them.
