Was this the best solution for the Pelicans? I actually think this is a pretty good haul considering what it was looking like on the Ingram trade market.

The Atlanta Hawks were rumored to be in the mix for Ingram as well, so maybe that helped create a more competitive negotiating angle for the Pelicans. Brown is a nice role player who will be a free agent this summer. Olynyk is a good backup big man signed next season for $13 million. And the first-round pick will reportedly be the 2026 pick the Raptors have from the Indiana Pacers.

That’s a good haul when you consider there was no market for Ingram for most of the last year. The Pelicans couldn’t find a team looking to accept his potential free agency and what a contract extension might have to look like. New Orleans is having a nightmare season, and the Pelicans just lost Dejounte Murray with an Achilles tendon rupture. They were already looking imbalanced as a roster if healthy when they acquired Murray to join Ingram, CJ McCollum, Trey Murphy III, Herb Jones and Zion Williamson last summer. To remove one of those elements should help things a lot — when healthy.

The problem is we don’t expect them to be healthy for a long time. The Pelicans have had to essentially punt on this season by default because they’re at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with the Utah Jazz, and they’re hoping this will land them some good fortune when it comes to the draft. It didn’t seem like they wanted to keep Ingram long term for various reasons, at least not at his asking price. They’ve turned that into some flexibility and draft capital. That’s a solid win in a season full of losses.

Grade: B

In our current situation a B is fair.

In hindsight when we could’ve traded him for scoot or Brandon Miller two years ago when many of us were calling for him to be traded. It’s an F

Yeah, in a league with guaranteed contracts who wants cheap talent!

All this is effing bullshite.

Ingram was a good basketball player..he could shoot, get to the rim, and make a 3..plus he was 6’10”! Now, was he worth 50mil? Maybe, maybe not. But i definitely know who ISN’T worth 50mil. ZION.

AND no onneee wants to admit it! We’re gonna f around until his value is tanked and up against a timeline just like Ingram where we get peanuts for him.

It’s unbelievable the assets we’ve squandered over the last few years including busts for draft picks.

Mark Williams to the Lakers makes me sick. WITH Luka Doncic?! F.

Not every team drafts like we do, and while the 1st round contracts are cheap, they often don't have the talent you reference, especially outside the top 5-7 picks (which is going to be the super majority of options in a league of 30 teams).

It doesn't matter. We're a small market team that has to hit on draft picks to stay relevant. And we're pretty good at it.

In an era where essentially any more than 2 max contracts is untenable, 1st round draft picks will only be increasing in value.

Exactly. So why mention the number of first round picks.

BI was a prior all star and we couldn’t get back one starter for him….

Because it's funny how badly the mavs got fleeced on that trade.
