Headed home through covington, my truck died in the traffic waiting for the bridge crossing.

It started up after 5 minutes and died two more times before I made it home to Folsom. Both times it started after a few minutes.

Am I screwed with a fuel pump problem or could I luck out with a filter or simillar?

Check engine light csme on a few weeks ago, never checked it. Truck has been running fine otherwise.

Well, obviously start with that.

Maybe. Maybe not. If it started and ran it's probably not grenaded. You need to pull the code out of it and start with that.

Yeah, plan to.

Do you think it's safe to drive to the auto parts store? Odds of me making it worse by doing so?

Did you have a full tank of diesel during the freeze?

I can't intelligently answer that without some more information. You'll have to go with your gut on that one.

No buddy's with a code reader? It sounds like you intend to halfway attempt to fix this yourself. What part of the world are you in?

I don’t know about a Duramax but that’s exactly what happened to my Frontier and it was the Crankshaft Sensor.

No buddy with a code reader.

I'm in Folsom.

I plan to look at it as far as changing the fuel filter and checking for metal, not sure what I would attempt myself after that.

Fuel filter is due for changing at next oil change.

You may have some shite fuel in your tank. I have had some issues with that but not to the extent the truck cut off

Not sure.

I changed fuel filter and let it it idle for 30 minutes, no issues.

Drove in to work this morning and it was great for an hour. Then, it died on me in the drive through line. Started up after a few minutes and I coasted into my work parking lot 5 minutes after that. It died again.

I was able to pump the button on top of the fuel filter about 10-15 times after it died the first time. Not sure if it should be able to pump that much? Maybe I'm losing prime?

Sounds like you are losing prime at the fuel filter, may need to rebuild that primer. That's how mine acted until I rebuilt the primer button but it's an older '04 so I'm not sure if a '13 is the same. Get rid of that fuel filter and put a Faas system on it, no more problems.

Buy fuel filter housing Oring rebuild kit. Seems a little early for this but its coming due with a 2013 but a cheap fix.

Is it worth just buying the oring kit or should I replace the entire filter housing?

YOU SHOULD GET THE CODES PULLED BEFORE YOU START THROWING PARTS AT IT

Google this, and start there. This is most likely the problem. It's intermittently losing fuel pressure control, which can cause it to dump rail pressure and it will die when that happens.

On my 2008 Duramax I had to replace that entire filter housing because it was causing air to get into the line particularly when the truck sat overnight. That was a very common issue with those year trucks. That being said I think GM fixed that issue as I haven’t heard of any of these newer model trucks having the issue
