East Zone Duck Season Ends on Jan.31

Did anyone else realize that Jan. 31 is a Friday? Since when does duck season end on a Friday?

East zone closes this Sunday. West zone closes on Friday the 31st.

It's the same in MS. Can't go past 1/31 regardless. Would you rather them cut it short and get fewer days?

I think we (MS/LA) are better off going as late as possible, rather than worrying about weekends, as far as best opportunities to kill. These next two days will be my last chances regardless. Start counting down again next week.

Has absolutely zero to do with your local wildlife and fisheries, the feds do not allow duck hunting past jan31.
Would you rather your season end on Sunday 1/26 like most other states?
How about you just be happy you have an extra 5 days of hunting instead of bitching about your local DNR.

Easy to mix dates up. I think our current zones make little sense. The zones should be north and south with I 10 and I 12 being the zone boundaries for simplicity.

EXACTLY, doesn’t make sense bc the Bird Act says no hunting after Jan. 31 but Veterans can hunt the weekend (Feb 1&2). Just let everyone hunt the weekend and close it at sundown on the 2nd.

Biologist say it should end about January 15, which is when it always ended. Trent Lott screwed that up. Ducks start to pair up about the middle of January. If you shoot a drake that is paired up with a hen, you set the hen back 3-4 weeks from making it to the breeding grounds because she has to go thru the courtship process all over again.
There are no new ducks getting here in February. You see them because everyone stopped shooting at them and running thru all their habitat with duck boats and pirouges.

We had a good bit of new ducks this weekend.
I was also a fan of the 3 splits. Gives time to do family stuff!

Best 2 hunts I've had in years were this weekend, after wanting to throw my gear in the trash a couple weeks ago. Ton of new ducks and they did it right.
