In Home Sound System

House was wired for speakers, but the previous owner took the speakers and sound system. Debating on putting in new speakers versus covering the hole and not worrying about the sound system.
I listen to music in my house a good bit, but have never had any issues just using an Alexa. I know you can pair multiple Alexas. Any reason I need an in home system or will a couple of Alexas give me the same result.
I don't need the highest quality sound and don't need it hooked up to a TV.
What are the boards thoughts?

I have Sonos amps driving my in ceiling speakers and I like it. Easy to control wirelessly with the app. Don’t need a home audio contractor to install and manage.

I hope you aren’t saying when you bought your home, the previous homeowner took the in wall/ceiling speakers out and left you with holes where they had been installed.
On to the question. If you’ve already got it wired, why not just go for it? You don’t need super high end components to get far superior sound to a few shitty Alexas around the house.
I really enjoy listening to music throughout the house and outside by the pool. When I renovated a few years back I opted to go wired and use 2 Yamaha receivers with MusicCast to customize my listening zones. I like Sonos, but the wired option gave me more bang for the buck. I find my wired set up quite flexible, and would go wired again if I had it to do over tomorrow.
If I could change one thing, I’d have moved the zone 2 and subwoofer amps into a media closet on a trigger from the living room receiver. I probably will do it at some point; it just hasn’t bothered me enough to do it yet.

It was a foreclosure lol.
It's wired for it, I just don't know if I want to put them back in. I don't mind the alexa sound. Im not calling you this or saying it's a bad thing, I'm just not a sound snob.
Other than quality, is there any reason to not do the Alexas?

You can have a cleaner built-in look vs the little Alexas all over the place. With an appropriate system you could incorporate TV audio as surround sound or all over the house.

The cost of patching holes in the ceiling...that's work to make it look good.

One reason is to forego the drywall repair.

Another vote for Sonos. I just took all the junk the previous owner installed and went up to the 8” Sonos speakers and it’s been great.

Yes, several reasons that other posters have listed but once you actually experience the difference in sound quality you will not want to go back to listening on echo dots
FWIW- there are many levels between Echo Dots and the sound snob ( aka audiophile) level . Somewhere in between would probably make you happy

Agree with what jennyjones said above.
The cost to patch up and repaint the holes where the speakers were located is greater than the cost to buy and install new speakers.
Forget about being a snob, because you clearly aren't one, and go ahead and buy high quality speakers in a price range you are comfortable with, then connect it to a good receiver with multi-zones and alexa-compatibility.
Then you control it easily with an app on your phone.

I put 15 indoor and 4 outdoor speakers in the ceiling at my place. 4 more in the living room for atmos. Ran audio baluns from media room to home theater and can feed audio in both directions to home theater and from. Worth the effort and being my house is built in 74, I have Celotex tiles and plywood for a ceiling so wasnt worried about it looking trashy bc it already does :)
I use it a lot more than I though I would. I bought my gear from Home theater direct out of TX.
