Setting up this thread for anyone participating in the Louisiana or Houston Marathon this weekend. I know a few weeks ago there were questions regarding LA so to avoid clogging the running thread, all questions/results/etc. can be posted here. Do not dox yourself and post your bib #, major specifics on your participation or times if you don't feel comfortable doing so.

In, doing the Louisiana half. My TFL and IT band are pissed that I tried to fit in one more VO2 workout so I'm taking the taper week very gently. My "A" goal is 1:35, anything faster is a nice surprise. "B" goal is just to finish and enjoy the run. It's been a nice training block that has set me up nicely for some spring racing. I did right over 1000 miles last year while balancing having a newborn
ETA: weather was looking crappy but we might actually sneak in between the rain and have some really nice conditions except for the wind

Weather prediction in BR just took a massive hit. Rain on Saturday leading to 48 degree high and 28 degree low (won't see that until the evening) but race temp will be 46 with 48 by 10am. 80% humidity.
HTX will be 41 throughout the race with 60% humidity. It's going to be a wet and cold weekend for everyone.

Running the LA Half. Its been a while and I am slow. Id be happy with anything below 2 hours. Weather looks like it will stay cool the whole race which is good but a 10-15 MPH North wind will suck.

I was dreading the long range forecast of rain, I would rather 40 and dry than 70 and raining!!

Girl from my run group ran this with her mother last year. Said it was very unnerving because there was ZERO elevation in the route other than crossing a bridge, I think. A big departure from the Cahaba Heights community of Vestavia Hills.

Mile 1/Mile 25 is the overpass that is about a quarter mile long and just a giant hill. Mile 2.5/Mile 10 is a short downhill/uphill going to/from LSU. Between Mile 4 and 5 is a downhill across Tiger Stadium that lasts 15 seconds. Mile 12 on Steele Blvd is a tiny down and up. Heading back towards Mile 13 (all full marathon mile markers) is a semi-steep but short uphill. After that, it's 12 miles of flat until you get back to Mile 25.

Aubie is going to bully us if he looks at an elevation chart of these

I should point out:
For LA Marathoners: unofficially there are "stops" between Mile 10 & 11 (when you turn up Dalrymple/City Park to continue the full marathon path by Perkins) and in front of Goodwood Elementary (Between Mile 16 & 17.) A few years ago I was with some people handing out whiskey/Fireball/alcoholic hot chocolate at the City Park. The last two years I've watched some families post up at the Goodwood Elementary spot giving out water/pickle juice/snacks to runners. Something the possibly keep in mind.

What's the hourly looking like for LA on Sunday? Not sure if I do capris or shorts!!
Posted on 1/16/25 at 2:29 pm to miles4mojitos
Trending colder. I just called Varsity to ask them if they still had any winter running gear because I'm unprepared

It'll be 44 degrees with 50% humidity by 11am. The drop off won't be that drastic but the sun will dissipate some of the moisture. I would probably stay with whatever keeps you warm. If you're wearing gloves, buy some cheap cotton ones you can toss at some point. 44 and sunny will feel warmer than it should.
