1. Denbrock has made a huge difference for the Notre Dame offense. They have a legit NFL runningback, and Denbrock is able to get the most out of Riley Leonard, who is fun to watch in these close games. Watching this year's ND offense vs 2022-23 is night and day.
2. Marcus Freeman's defenses are nasty. They're big fast, and fundamentally sound, and they play ridiculously hard. It's no wonder LSU wanted him so badly in 2021.
3. ND's taken a major step in their defensive talent under Freeman. The NIL era + Freeman's youth have revitalized ND recruiting in a way not seen in the BK era in South Bend.
4. Freeman has ND in a position to be a yearly lock for the college football playoffs, which is about what he inherited from BK. This is not to take anything away from Freeman, but he inherited a Ferarri. BK's fingerprints are all over the program. And as good as this ND team is, they'd be a PROBLEM if they had an elite QB.
5. This team is fun to watch.

Have to disagree on a couple of points. While the Denbrock offense is better this year, stepping up from the play calling of Tummysticks Rees and Gerard Parker is a super low bar.

As for KeLLLLy's fingerprints....barely anything of this team resembles a BK product. 16 of 22 starters never had a single practices under BK. Xavier Watts, Mitchell Evans, and Pat Coogan . Freeman had to scramble to keep the class together the year BK left. Sure BK hired Freeman, but I consider Freeman to be on the Fickell coaching tree and not BK. He got his first opportunity as a DC under Darrell Hazell at Purdue and refined his coaching under Fickel at Cincinnati. Nothing Freeman does resembles the BK years.

4 seasons prior to Freeman taking over for kelly

12-1
11-2
11-2
11-2

Freeman took over a top 5 program.

He does look like a promising young coach but he has yet to prove he can build his own program.

The BK lovers are so desperate to give him credit for ND success. It’s sad really
ND doesn’t get past the first game if Kelly was still there

I'm sorry facts about Kelly's tenure at ND pisses you off. Kelly built ND to an elite level and handed it to Freeman.

3 years prior to hiring Kelly at ND

3-9
7-6
6-6

I'm not giving Kelly credit for the wins of this season... just saying he handed Freeman a ready to win program.

Did you just decide to not read RickDaddys post right above yours before you posted that stupid shite?

Go back at look at the ND records under Kelly the 4 years prior of Freeman again.

Hiring a DC and actually mentoring him as a coach or to take over as a coach are completely different things. Freeman installed his system and ran his own defense. A complete overhaul from the previous defenses run under BK. The analysis that the current program has anything to do with KeLLLLy is complete fiction and wishful thinking by folks that think he is a good coach. Denbrock may be a KeLLLLy product, but I'm hoping Denbrock moves on (wishful thinking probably).

54 players and 9 coaches including the OC and DC that were part of BK teams are not part of the current program. Plain and simple, this isn't the program BK left. Mentality, culture, and traditional aspects of ND football have been restored from the teardown that BK performed. Which includes lowering the academic standards.

BK culture is not being ready for big games, taking the ball when you win the toss and doing nothing on the first drive, first drive false starts, burning TO's in the first quarter, taking a knee at the end of the first half, QB regression, having teams that don't play full games, vacating wins, and killing kids by putting them in scissor lifts during extreme winds. I always liked watching LSU teams of the past, but BK will turn you into LLLLSU before he's competitive in the National Title picture.

We honestly should have paid freeman whatever he wanted to get him down here.

Os failure to get him led directly to his firing.

So easy to say now. Taking a defensive coordinator who has never seen a snap as head coach over winningest head coach in college football at the time. Please.

When Kelly left that’s what their defense looked like.

and they had a good defense for a while. Kelly hired Elko, he hired Lea Clark he hired Freeman. Notre Dame had been a good defensive team for a while.

they operate the same Too

strong defense, running QB, Mediocre offense.

6 starters had a practice with and were recruited by BK? Wow, that's a lot more than I was expecting.

Lol, and? That's a part of every coaching transition. Also means less in the NIL/Transfer era.

I never said he was under the BK coaching tree, but he got hired at ND via Kelly. Was it a good hire, or no? What about Elko?

The offense is a Denbrock offense, which is virtually synonymous with a Kelly offense. Denbrock's tailored it to fit his limitations at QB. Y'all have a mean defense and run the ball well.

The entire infrastructure he's working with is a product of Kelly's development of the ND program. They look a lot like a Kelly team, just with better defensive talent.

If you think they look like a KeLLLLy team, then you never watched a full game of ND football while he was the coach. You might find 1 of 10 ND fans who think that. I know you are trying to justify your coach, but the reality is 99/100 ND fans were glad he left when he did. HIs meathead agent was always trying to squeeze more out of ND while he decimated the culture and traditions.

He also had to vacate wins and killed a kid. The good news is, with a 12 team playoff his habit to lose 1-2 mind boggling games every single year will probably allow him to sneak into the playoffs at least once before ALL the pitchforks come out.
