Elijah Haven of Dunham (Baton Rouge, La.) is the 2024 MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound quarterback joins the likes of Derrick Henry (2010), Quinn Ewers (2019), Bryce Underwood (2022) and Julian Lewis (2023) as past winners.

Haven led Dunham to a 14-1 record and an appearance in the Division III Select state championship game. He completed 193 of 321 passes for 3,093 yards and 37 touchdowns (against seven interceptions) to go with 925 yards on the ground and 19 more scores.

In a 31-28 loss against Catholic (New Iberia) in the title game, Haven threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns to go with 154 yards rushing and two more scores.

Throwing motion needs some attention, but the kid is a stud.

I hope someone locally can chime in because I wonder if he has any ideas about reclassifying?

I love the fact that he is playing what looks like the 2 spot in basketball. Basketball translates very well to the QB position especially in terms of mental processing and instantaneous court/field awareness.

I am somewhat close to the family. While I can't say for sure, I have never asked them about nor heard them discuss reclassification, but I would be surprised if he did.

If Elijah blew out a knee and/or tore up his shoulder he would still have a successful life. He is a very smart kid. He isn't reliant solely on athletics for his future.

Young man was great in the championship game against CHSNI. Fortunately, our DB got a pick off of him in the endzone on fourth down to secure a championship for the Panthers. With that said, unless he transfers, he will be tough to beat the next two years.

I'm sure he's receiving talks to reclassify after next season

That was a touchdown at the end of the second quarter.

Yes sir it was. If they would have initially called it a TD, it would have stood.

High interest in LSU, but is exploring options as he should. Has a strong family circle around him in the Baton Rouge area.

Baring someone makes an offer that makes Underwood look poor, he is LSU's to lose. Strictly my take on it though, no inside info.

100%

They even used replay and saw that it was a clean catch with a foot in and still said, "frick it! Let's just leave it as called."
