I was looking at the chokes the other day also. I think you are right.

I am on my third season with one. It is actually my favorite shotgun I’ve ever had. Might not be quite as much of a “high end“ name, but mine shoots where I point ( far more so than the Benelli I had before it), and has not had any mechanical issues at all.

A family member also has one, which is how I discovered them. He did have some mechanical issues and Customer Service was absolutely exemplary. Admittedly this was several years ago when they were brand new so that may not be the case anymore.

Love mine. I do use aftermarket chokes, but the above comment about steel and tight constrictions is accurate.

I absolutely love mine. Got it the year after the SBE3 came out and I have no regrets about the Retay over the Benelli.

I actually had a phenomenal customer service experience with them. My masai mara was not properly cycling 7 1/2s during dove season. Called them up, they had a prepaid box at my house two days later. Dropped it at UPS and the very next day, I got a call from an absolute baw who knew exactly what was going on, fixed it for free and even said that they had another issue with them that my gun was not experiencing, but they were going to replace another part just to be safe. The gun was back at my house 2 days later with a hat to boot. I'd be hard pressed to think of a time where I had better customer service with literally any company.

However, my reasoning may be a bit, uuh, unscientific.

I like 26 inch guns with an extended choke. It adds just a little bit of length to the barrel, which I like, and I like being able to exchange by hand.

When I got my gun, it was a pretty new company, and there were limited options for extended chokes. I found a set of these for a great price, bought them, had excellent results and have not changed.
