Pope appoints Trump critic to be archbishop of Washington, DC, and appoints first female leader of a Vatican department

quote:

CNN — Pope Francis has appointed Cardinal Robert McElroy, a vocal defender of migrants and critic of Donald Trump’s first administration, as the next archbishop of Washington, DC. Cardinal McElroy, 70, is a strong supporter of Francis’ priorities on refugees, the environment and welcoming LGBTQ Catholics. He will succeed Cardinal Wilton Gregory, 77, who was the first African-American Archbishop of Washington, DC.

quote:

Early in Trump’s first term, then-Bishop McElroy gave a speech in Modesto, California, specifically referencing Trump and urging Catholics to become “disruptors” of the anti-immigrant agenda. “We must disrupt those who would seek to send troops into our streets to deport the undocumented, to rip mothers and fathers from their families. We must disrupt those who portray refugees as enemies rather than our brothers and sisters in terrible need,” he said.

That happened a long time ago. IMHO the Catholic church is now out for the money, when it takes 200 years to complete a Cathedral something is wrong. The Vatican is the most arrogant display of wealth I've ever seen, literately tons of gold stored and it could be used to help all mankind.

McElroy

what a tool.

he's not a working class american citizen who can't find a job, can't find housing, whose kids are getting crowded out in schools and health clinics, or a young lady facing sexual harassment.

he doesn't need to worry about losing children to fentanyl addiction or gang violence.

easy to preach when you don't have to face the consequences.

ETA: refugees my arse. we don't want military aged males, chicomms, nor aloha snackbars brazenly entering our open borders and forming sleeper cells. frick that. nothing unchristian about refusing entry to bad actors!

and whoever funds those caravans ought to be in jail. catholic NGOs are commie tools not real Catholics.

he's a piker compared to pope paul, vatican ll could have died with pope john but it was paul that resurrected and radicalized it. the church i was baptized into in 1961 looked nothing like the church i was confirmed into in 1972. ordinarily i would have been confirmed in 1969, but vatican ll changed that. thanks to the declaration of vatican ll that nuns had no more special role in the church than laity we lost 90,000 nuns in a single decade and every teacher i had at good council was an ex nun. francis is an immature idiot, a pathetic boy that never grew up, a narcissistic idiot in love with the sound of his own voice. everything that he's done has been superficial and will be long forgotten within a couple of years after his passing, which seems imminent. paul took a baseball bat to the church and we're still reeling from the effects of vatican ll to this day.

Jesus is the Rock.
Peter was a small stone.
Peter’s phony “successors” are mere sinners and have no authority except that bestowed and wielded by sinners.

Ergo, this is not even newsworthy.

I'm sure he'd feel the same way if they were all muslims.

Then again, maybe not. The Catholic church cucks to everyone now.

There actually may be merit to this since Cardinal McElroy was allegedly in that group of Ted McCarrick’s protoges.

In general, his beliefs are to the left of most Catholics and even if he was a Trump fan, it's a very bad appointment for the Archdiocese of Washington.

Whoever advised PF to appoint Tool McElroy should be under the Vatican jail:

link

quote:

BPNF Summary Note: The appointment of San Diego Cardinal Robert McElroy as the new archbishop of Washington, D.C., succeeding Cardinal Wilton Gregory, has raised significant concerns and criticisms due to McElroy’s controversial past. Reports highlight that McElroy has been implicated in covering up sexual abuse cases, particularly the satanic sexual abuse of Rachel Mastrogiacomo by Father Jacob Bertrand, which was initially ignored by McElroy. Although Bertrand was eventually removed from ministry, McElroy allowed his return, prompting Mastrogiacomo to take legal action that resulted in Bertrand’s probation.

Moreover, McElroy has been accused of hiding evidence related to former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s sexual misconduct, as documented by the late psychotherapist Richard Sipe. Despite the gravity of these allegations, McElroy’s elevation in the church hierarchy continues, raising questions about the accountability and transparency of the Roman Catholic Church’s leadership.

Pope Francis, who has also faced accusations of covering up abuse during his tenure as Archbishop of Buenos Aires, has not responded to public pleas for action against McElroy and others accused of similar misconduct. The situation underscores the ongoing struggle within the church to address the deep emotional and psychological harm caused by clerical sexual abuse and the perceived lack of accountability for those in positions of power.

Of course.

The federal government through DHS and State Department policies pay Catholic Charities bank to recruit and help migrants cross the southern border into the U.S. Big money.

The excuse that helping migrants is a charitable action is over. At this point it is a greedy and self serving action.

It is not shaming of Catholics; however, these "priests" have concerning precedent.

I'm a very active Catholic and can tell you McElroy sucks and has been an awful bishop long before he opened his mouth about Trump.

Fortunately, he's already past the age of 70, so his retirement won't be too far off (though he can do a lot of damage in five years).

Honestly, who cares? Protestant distinctives were totally absent from church history for a literal 1.5 millennia after Pentacost, and what orthodox beliefs they do hold, they inherit from the Catholic church. In other words, their opinions are 100% irrelevant.
