Are you embarrassed that Bobby Phills’ number is retired, especially being that it’s the only one?

Pels fans, any thoughts on the fact that the retired number did not follow to New Orleans?

Bobby Phils was a Charlotte Hornet, never played in New Orleans

It's retired bc he was an active member of the community and tragically killed in a car accident after a home game. His son played at Charlotte Christian

If this is true, I don't know why you are getting downvoted. Could have killed other innocent people as well.

it absolutely is true.

quote:

On January 12, 2000, while a member of the Charlotte Hornets, Phills was killed in a car accident in Charlotte, North Carolina. Phills was traveling behind teammate David Wesley at over 100 mph (160 km/h) when his Porsche spun and crossed into oncoming traffic. It hit another car, which in turn was struck in the rear by a minivan. The drivers of the other two vehicles recovered, while Phills was pronounced dead at the scene. A police report said Phills and Wesley were driving "in an erratic, reckless, careless, negligent or aggressive manner." Wesley was later convicted of reckless driving after being cleared of a racing charge.

also, before the rebranding from Hornets to Pelicans, his jersey was hanging in the Smoothie King Center.

The only New Orleans basketball player who warrants a retired jersey is Pistol Pete Maravich.

There is so much more to be embarrassed by, that this is pretty low on the list.

Season was already over once December hit.

This

We gave Charlotte back their history from 1988 to 2002 and officially, retroactively, the Pelicans franchise started in October 2002…
