What are y’all seeing?

I’m in Colorado with the Family and won’t be able to hunt until the first weekend of January.

My son saw a nice buck on his way out the woods last night. It was on a doe and he said he could smell it.
We had a new buck show up last night behind the house. Big body and his neck is swollen.

Getting night pics of bucks together. That’s a little strange. Also killed a nice 8 a few days ago that had brown stinky hocks

I agree. The weather forecast for the coming days is not ideal but I’ll be in the woods

I’m out until the first weekend of January and the forecast looks great for
Wilkinson County by then! Near freezing overnight temps and not above mid-50’s during the days.

I’m as close to SW Miss as a person can be while still in La. They’re chasing and grunting but it’s just getting started. Working scrapes hard so everything should line up perfect for that next cool front they are forecasting

I would say it’s pre rut and just a matter of time. Next 2 weeks should be really good.

My entire life, the rut down here has been DEC 20 - JAN 10 with a secondary end of January.....hasnt changed much....
Christmas week is hot, and this year seems to be following suit....

Good Luck! All!

I'm a crows fly from there. I killed a big ten Saturday afternoon. I had a doe and two babies come out and feed in the food plot, and he showed up a few minutes later. He started tearing up trees and scraping. She left and he followed her. They were gone for 20 min and came back. He started scraping and hooking again, and I laid him to rest. Still prerut which is my favorite time of the season. We had a buck killed two weeks ago and his hocks were smelly, but another buck killed wasn't.

The forecast for next weekend is warming up - a few days ago is was supposed to fall to 31° Saturday morning, the current forecast has it bottoming out at 47° with highs of 62° on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I know that warm weather impacts daytime activity but how warm is "too warm" and at what temp does the rut become primarily nocturnal?

The Does are not ready to breed, it as simple as that. A few more days.
Normal Weather has little to do with rutting activity. It's just like humans, both sides have to agree, to have sex. Just like humans, the bucks are ready for sex and the does need a little more time. Be patient.

Maybe it depends on what you mean by "normal weather" but I have seen a 70 deg, temps shut the rut down like someone threw a switch.

When the rut hits and its cold the deer are going at it like newlyweds - anywhere, anytime the opportunity arises. But if it turns hot they're like an old married couple - it may be happening but its after dark and in private.

I have a pic of a young buck draped over the back of a doe...like sideways by a feeder lol

The bucks are trying for sure....mostly younger ones....if not all younger ones from what I've seen

I was up there this weekend and hunted hard. There are scrapes. Didnt see any chasing during daylight hours

We did kill four doe's though. One was killed right before that big front came through....found blood and I called the hunters into the camp. They all came inside with lightning in going crazy in the backround. You could hear trees and limbs falling everywhere.

Needless to say they made it back in the nick of time. We found the deer laying on the edge of the field about 2 hours after the storm

Fun weekend

Maybe, just maybe, y'all are not good enough hunters to kill deer under warming conditions. Because if you think, 70 degree weather will "shut down the rut", ya'll need to start hunting squirrels.

Maybe the does have moved to a location with more cover.
Maybe the deer have changed to a totally nocturnal environment. I don't know. But I can tell yall with total confidence, that the big buck in my yard, who's nose has been up every does azz for the last week, is NOT "shutting down his rut", regardless of the temperature.
Get out that box stand and go find the deer.
God Bless and Happy New Year.
