quote:

Allies of Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., are urging President-elect Trump to publicly reaffirm support for the House GOP leader to avoid a messy, protracted battle that could delay the certification of his own victory.

"If we have some kind of protracted fight where we can’t elect a speaker — the speaker’s not elected; we’re not sworn in. And if we’re not sworn in, we can’t certify the election," Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., told Fox News Digital.

"I would hope that President Trump would chime in and talk to those who are maybe a little hesitant, and say, ‘We’ve got to get going. We don’t have time.’"

Meanwhile, Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital "it would be immensely helpful" if Trump chimed in.

Meh. I’m not sure what to make of Johnson. He strikes me as a nice guy but too much of a coward for what is ultimately required.

I’m so confused with this dude. He looked completely out of place with the Trump entourage, but did he not like being among them or something? Is his political awareness that poor?

He knows he won’t be speaker and likely irrelevant again.

I think when it comes to that mess with the CR he handled it extremely poorly allowing that initial bill to ever exist, much less come to light for the public. Only an out of touch moron wouldn’t be able to read the room for the reaction it got. He might have presumed his hands tied idk. Again, he strikes me as a nice guy but just doesn’t have the steel that will be needed with such a slim house majority.

That would be an interesting choice. I could get behind that.

This is such a transparent ploy to manipulate Trump. It'll probably work.

Johnson has to go. His priority is Ukraine funding. That’s not what people voted for. It’s got to stop and apparently he has no interest stopping it.

Right, we have to keep giving billions to Ukraine and continuing these insane Biden policies.

Johnson is a joke.

Can someone show me in the constitution where a speaker has to be sworn in before an election can be certified because I cannot find it in there

Rand Paul has said he would do it, even though he has no vote in it but anyone can be Speaker.

I think this 'Trump may be delayed as president' unless they stick with a man that had no problems putting out the trash CR1. Speaker J went on Fox and Friends like Mary Poppins promoting it as just money for the hurricane victims and farmers.

He knew it was garbage with a bow.

I realize that no one wants infighting and delayed Speaker voting. But it takes more than one now to challenge the Speaker.

It shouldn't feel like it is asking too much to want a Rand Paul we can trust.

This is an accurate assessment.

His views are sincere but he also wants to make sure nobody feels left out of the conversation. I don’t think it’s politically calculated or malicious; I just think he’s too much of a people pleaser to make the tough decisions.

Ideal speaker. Must happen. Although sadly probably won’t.
