Got invited to attend Mon/Tues practice rounds. Always wanted to walk that course. Any tips from those that have been?

Don't expect to get in merch tent with out a several hour long wait. The line is better near the end of the day but still ridiculously long. And this applies to both of the shops.

I try to prioritize finding interesting details in the course and scenery over watching the actual golf, but watch plenty of golf too!

The 5th and 6th greens are insane.

Yeah don’t skip any holes…hole 5 blew my mind with how it looks from the tee and how the green looks from ground level. Average ticket in the merch tent is $800…you will get tempted to buy a lot of stuff you never knew existed. I think the garden gnomes have been the hot ticket the last few years.

Setup several meeting points during the day if someone gets lost. No cell phones allowed, so if someone gets separated from the group you are not likely to find them again without designated meeting points / times.

Get there as soon as the gates open and go straight to the merch shops. Dont worry about carrying your stuff all day.. they’ll ship it home for you at a very reasonable price,

Get there early. Bring a good camera or a up-to-date iPhone for pictures on practice round days. Start on one and walk the entire course early then go back to the holes that you want. It will give you a great appreciation for the property and how the course lays out From the clubhouse to Rae’s Creek. There is so much that TV does not show you.

When I was there several years ago we went to the merch tent first, bought all of our stuff and then let them check our bags in while we watched the tourney.

Stopped by the tent and picked up our bags on the way out. Easy peasy.

It's really a first class operation, nothing they do there is half-assed.

You can't bring a cell phone in. Go get a disposable camera.

Spend some time on 16 & watch them skip balls across the pond.

Both of these.

Head straight to the merch shop when the gates open and plan a meeting spot for afterward. You will get separated from your party and have no way to find them without a plan ahead of time.

Buy everything you want and more in merch. I don't regret anything I bought there. I do regret not getting more. When I go to Carriages and see that their Peter Millar polos are the same price as the Masters logoed Peter Millar polos at ANGC, I wish I would have bought more.

Bring a decent, but smallish camera for pictures. Remember, you're there to see the course, not the players, so if you want to follow a group, do so with a less marquis one.

Everyone says that TV doesn't do the hills justice, and they are right. You will climb some decent hills. Depending on the weather preceding the tournament, you may want to wear some shoes with traction. They will do a decent job putting pine straw or green grass colored cat litter in wet spots, but it can still get sloppy.

Save your cups, and pick up any that are left behind. They make for great conversation pieces at home as well as party favors for Masters watch parties.

If you have the time and ability, turn the trip into a golf trip as well. There are some great courses in that area, some of which are not open to the public other than during Masters week. Yes, you will pay a premium. But some of my fondest memories are from playing Palmetto in Aiken, SC and even the courses on the way to Augusta and back that we stopped at.

Marvel at the efficiency of the entire operation and how nice all the volunteers are. Enjoy it. I can't wait to get back.

For practice rounds, you are allowed to take a camera.

Pace yourself. It’s hilly.

You can efficiently see the entire course without walking every step of every hole.

IMO, the greens are where to spend you time observing players. The complexes are amazing.

Concessions are shockingly cheap.

Main gift shop is always a very long wait. There’s another out by 5 and 15/16 that is not quite as crowded.

The gates opened an hour or so early the year I went. I’d plan to be parked and ready to go early than gate time open. Merch tent first. Enjoy rest of day.

My personal favorite spot is at the middle of the 9th green.

That green is just mean, it’s very entertaining watching pros hit putts from the right side of that green to the Sunday pin. A fair number of them would roll off the green down the hill if the caddie didn’t stop it.

The gates absolutely open earlier than the posted time, go post up early for merch and you will be off to a hot start.

You must at least get a polo, 2 hats (one with year, one with out), a flag, and a pullover. To pass out as souvenirs, ball marker packs, cheap logo balls, koozies, beverage cups. IMO

Tilley hats are reasonably priced.

Toboggans.

Outerwear will last longer. For a reasonable price you can get light jackets or pullovers.

You have to ask for the “truck nuts” at the South gift shop. They are near the logoed wife beater tees.

These are the gnomes they are referencing. Limited availability each day and can only buy 1 of each. Big one is $50. You will see them on ebay 30 mins after the gates open for $3-400.
