Knife and thermometer recommendations

My grandma is after me for ideas for Christmas. I always tell her not to worry but know she enjoys giving something so I’d like some recommendations of kitchen knives or what brand of wireless meaters are good these days. I grill/smoke a lot and cook in the kitchen often but never really got fancy stuff. Think my budget is around $150-200, any recommendations is appreciated.

Thermoworks for meat thermometers. They have some good sales right now; the new RFX wireless meat probe appears to be a game changer if you’re in the market

Familiar with Cutco knives?

Wusthof classic 8 inch Chef's knife. I've never used a "meater" type meat thermometer.
WÜSTHOF Classic 8" Chef's Knife, Black LINK
They're usually 170 bones.

Does this thing actually work? My meater is a POS and I never use it anymore

Unfortunately you bought a shite product from a company with poor reviews and Customer Service. You’re the 5th - 6th person I’ve heard that their Meater thermometer is a POS and died.
Pretty much every commercial restaurant kitchen I’ve been in all the chefs and kitchen staff use ThermoWorks products. You pay more but it lasts forever and they stand behind their products.
I’ve had the Thermo Pop and ThermoOne probe for many years and never had a problem. The Thermo Pops go on sale for $25 occasionally as I buy them for Christmas and bday gifts

Kosmo,
Just curious, Why did you switch brands and buy the Meater product?

I bought the Smoke after I got frustrated with the Meater.
I had an old Maverick remote probe thermometer that lasted years but the cords needed replaced periodically. The appeal of a wireless remote probe is very strong, at least for me.
But the connection issues with the Meater was infuriating, so I went with the reliable ThermoWorks Smoke.

Sale is good through 12/31 , I ordered a gateway kit with 2 probes tonight
If I can put meats on the rotisserie and monitor from a phone via wifi and cloud, its gonna be awesome

If you want GOOD kitchen knives you’re going to pay. A knife block with bunch of kitchen knives are junk. Cheap steel. I bought a magnetic knife holder and spend about 600 on my knives. One is Japanese high end steel kitchen Gyuto 65RC hardness. Only sharpen it twice a yr.
