Started looking at weatherby mark v rifles with camo stock.. then kept going down a rabbit hole and found cooper and jp sauer. just curious if these are good to consider. Sauer seems to have been around forever so not too concerned and cooper founders look to have come from kimber in 1993.

SAUER rifles are great they made Colt rifles in the 80s

Nighthawk bought Cooper Rifles a few years ago. They just started getting a few of those out.

Original Cooper rifles are heavily sought after.

J.P. Sauer and Sohn make excellent rifles. They are the oldest firearms manufacturer in Germany (273 years). I have a model 202 takedown rifle that I liked so much I bought my son one for his first deer rifle.

Just FYI, some of the nicer carbon stocks on mark Vs are made by a company called peak44 (Weatherby is a part owner), and they do sell them for other rifles. They’re pricey but one of the lightest options out there.

Very familiar with Cooper dating back to their infancy of Cooper Firearms of Montana. I knew several of the employees and spoke with them on a monthly basis. I’ve owned 12-15 Cooper rifles over the years and have since sold them all. Dan Cooper and several employees left Kimber of Oregon to form CFOM. They strictly built very accurate single shot, small caliber wildcat rifles at first. 17’s, 20’s, and 22’s. (17 HeBee, 17 Javelina, 17 Ackley Bee, 20 Tactical, 20 Vartarg, 20 Predator, etc…) Custom micro sized action, Wilson stainless barrels, and gorgeous wood stocks.

Dan fk’d up by publicly supporting Obama for Pres. and due to the overwhelming backlash he was forced to sell his company. Wilson barrels bought Cooper, and most recently they were purchased by Nighthawk in Arkansas. Prices have gone through the roof and custom rifle prices are now higher than giraffe pussy. The current owner has discontinued building small caliber wildcats and will not repair or fix rifles built by previous owners.

It’s a shame because Cooper Firearms once created accurate beautiful rifles that were affordable $900-$1800. Today it’s all about charging $5-$8K+ for a rifle that is overpriced IMO.

Some of my former rifles that were all purchased for <$1100

From 1990 - 2010 when they were located in Stephensville, MT.

Not sure I’d buy a used Cooper FOM today since the original models are not warrantied or repaired by the new owners. I have several friends needing bolt and trigger replacement parts / repairs and they’re SOL.

I still have a Cooper .22 rifle that I got for about $1,325. Punched lots of holes in paper with it for a time when that was a passion. It’s a solid and accurate little rifle.

There is a Cooper sub-forum at Rimfirecentral.com that has some activity. Good place to go for info.

A Jackson Squirrel rifle use to cost $1300 from cooper. They are 5K+ now. I love Nighthawk but they fricked up the Cooper line.
