Early Signing Day for football "under review"

Don't know how seriously they are going to take it but at least the proposal is out there. I doubt we get it though since in CFB these days what the majority wants is the opposite of what they get (see: playoffs).

IMHO, FWIW, I think it's ridiculous that DI football gets treated differently than every other sport, e.g., men's basketball (signing day), DI-AA football (playoff), and so on.
I think this is a great idea, but one more likely to pass before recruiting became such a $$$ game.

It's just good for the lot of CFB.
Many guys know exactly where they want to go and would like to get recruiting over as quickly as possible because they dont want information from other schools or to constantly talk to other coaches (basically don't want to be bothered). With an early signing period in December the guys can get recruiting off their backs (who want to) instead of having to hear nonsense and stuff they don't want to talk about until they sign on the dotted line in Feb.

i dont like it, just like i dont like the rule that players cant transfer after coaching changes. if a coach is doing poorly and recruits well, selling the "rebuild the program well" pitch, then gets fired after signing day, then the kids are left in a bad situation. should be about the kids, the student athletes and whats best for them. just my two cents

PP wouldn't be a Tiger if this rule was in place last year. He'd be at the U.

But we would have more time to recruit a reuben randle or debose and not have to worry about guys like or janzen jackson decommiting even if it is just rumors

Early signing day would prevent a lot of questionable financial transactions that currently happen in January. Of course, it means that those who do not sign in December will get a lot more attention in January and the price would go up due to limited supply for those schools who missed out in the early signing period.

And its an issue in college basketball as well, but lots of schools just let prospects out of the LOI if they really want to leave because of a coaching change.
But even with that minor issue in college basketball, the consensus is it has been good for the schools and the athletes in that sport; it would be good for football as well.

I'm not sure what my opinion on this topic is yet....

This will never happen in football. Why you ask well companies such as ESPN, Rivals, & scout will not allow it. ESPNU for example on signing day will have coverage for like 6 hours on their network on where these kids are going to school, plus live announcements, and you really think ESPN and Rivals are going to let people mess with their money.

So they would just happen earlier then?

It is better than nothing...but I would prefer it to be even earlier.

Someone educate me on this. Does this mean if you are committed by the early signing period, you have to sign the LOI or could you still wait? I know bball has this but I don't follow that as closely as football.

I like it this means these kids can hurry up and pick instead of (I wanna go here,no I dont I wanna go here)they need to just make up their frickn minds.
