I’ve secured a ticket for the sugar bowl and asked travel tips for such and it was suggested to try it. Any veteran travelers that can help a newbie plan the trip? I want to fly in watch the game and leave the next day. I went to the city about 20 years ago and so I’m just going for the game.

Legitimate question - what is your budget?

That heavily influences the advice.

If you are flying in just for the game then you should just get a hotel room within walking distance to the stadium. There are many.

You can walk around the French Quarter before the game where most of the other fans will be, then walk to the Dome. Everything is walkable.

If you want a nice lunch in a lively atmosphere before the game, go to Galatoire’s. They relax the dress code on days like this.

If you are just staying for one day you shouldn’t need much more travel advice.

Cab to and from the airport.

Im middle class so I’m not looking to break the bank but definitely not a roach coach either. I see the Wyndham has a decent rate.

If you're staying at a hotel only one night, start looking soon - many will have a multiple night minimum stay. Some hotels do a NYE party/room package, but that would only be for 12/31.

Check some of the hotels on St. Charles as well. It is a short street car ride or cheap uber to the Dome or downtown/quarter.

Near the Dome, I’ve stayed at the Hyatt, le Pavilion, Drury Inn, Holiday Inn (big old clarinet on the side). All were fine and walkable.
