Reposting for tech board where I didn’t get any responses
I'm looking to redo the audio in my house. Not looking to do anything crazy for surround sound but just want good quality and multi zone control.

Current setup:
Onyx receiver single zone
3 Proficient Audio DVC 6 1/2 ceiling mounts inside (1 in living room, 1 in dining room and 1 in kitchen)
3 Proficient Audio DVC 6 1/2 ceiling mounts outside under patio
Bose sound bar and sub

Options:
1 - Just replace the receiver with something like a Juke 6 and have full zone control
2 - Juke or similar with better speakers
3 - Scrap it all and go with Sonos ceiling mounts (3 inside, 3 outside on 2 amps) pitch the Bose and also get a Sonos soundbar and sub. If I go this route is it worth it to go up the the 8" speakers over the 6"?
4 - other options i'm not thinking about?

I’m cheap so I would get a 12 channel amp(basically free used) for the 6 dvc zones, then two synchronizable airplay2 devices to make two zones.

Best is a full 12 channel 6-zone box but they’re over $1000 and get outdated every several years.

ETA: I also really hate the Sonos app and how it interacts with your libraries. Beyond awful.

Might try posting on Music Board as well. Lots of audio experts there.

I’m setting up my new house currently and I’m just going to go with Klipsch. Not the best but it’s good enough for me:

I did the Fleuxs Core 200 and sub for my living room and moved my old Klipsch sound bar and sub to my master bedroom.

Media room
Denon AVr-x3700h
12 inch Klipsch sub and center channel speaker
Got 4 old speakers that came with the house that I will replace with 2 tower speakers and rears.

I’ve got to figure out door kitchen and pool area speakers. Old owner has speaker wire ran into the landscaping next to the pool and he ran Sonos there and a Sonos sound bar for the TV.

I used to have ceiling speakers on the outside of my entire house. When I redid it I pulled those all down as my wife did not like the music coming from above. For your pool area I would suggest those bows landscaping speakers. A relative has some of those around their pool and it puts out some really nice sound that you can still talk and hold conversations at a moderate volume. With the sound coming from above we found you couldn't really talk at any decent listening level.

Just got half of it setup. Still need a few things:

Replace the 25 year old Bose with Klipsch tower speakers
Add surround speakers in wall 2 of them
Replace old rear Klipsch speakers
Maybe add another sub but this one seems plenty loud.
Upgrade the projector.

My media room isn’t that big so I think one sub will work.

Yeah I had some badass speakers in my ceiling in Baton Rouge on my last house and they were loud as shite. 4 8’s in the ceiling ran off a Heos amp.

I’m trying to use my old amps but not sure I have a need. I have a sub amp but I don’t need it because I didn’t do in wall subs on this house.

There’s speaker wire ran all over this house but I can’t make sense of it

That’s a nice theatre setup. I might have to check out the klipsch ceiling speakers if I decide not to go all Sonos.

It’s a work in progress. I’ve got other things to work on before I finish it up but it’s on the to do list.

Ended up going all Sonos after the wife liked it.

Installed 2 amps, 6 8" in-ceiling speakers and the Ultra Arc soundbar and sub this weekend. Grabbed a couple of the Roam 2 speakers as well and honestly couldn't be happier with how it sounds and the ability to sync across all speakers. The Roams do a good job of letting me supplement some sound in areas when we have people over so that was kind of the final push over the top. It wasn't cheap, but it works great and she's happy.

Great choice! We're still rocking the S1 components which we've enjoyed daily since 2012 and it's been virtually flawless. The earlier products have good sound (not great) but the sole reason I chose Sonos was for ease of use so my wife could utilize it without any help.

Good luck with the Sonos. That's what I have and it's a bitch to set up and get working on my network. Just recently, there must have been an update to the app. The update erased every setting in my app as if i just installed it for first time. Others have mentioned same issue on the web. At this point, I am not able to set my system up again. I had 2 rooms and 2 other music services integrated in there and I can't do anything from my app. I will now have to factory reset each device and attempt set up all over again.

my setup is ultra low budget, but works without fail in my small house. All below is in a centrally located closet.
1. pc with itunes, streaming apps and cd/dvd player built in
2. decent stereo receiver (can replace with new to add bluetooth)
3. Niles 6 channel impedance matching speaker selector switch
4. 16 gauge speaker wire throughout (also in conduit to shop) (bought in 500 foot roll)
5. Bookshelf speakers or outdoor speakers mounted high in corners (so you don't notice the wire coming out of the ceiling behind it.
6. soundbar on tv, not connected to above system so swmbo can listen to music while i watch tv.

the main weakness is having to go to the closet to adjust volume, i tried in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, and i never found any that sounded as good as a decent cabinet. by the tv, i have bose 601s, where i can run speaker wire through the wall behind it.(not connected to tv, for music in that room)
