No way this is sustainable. Until changes are made, shouldn’t take it too personally.

Never thought I'd see the day that teenagers would have the leverage in the world of sports.

I’m all for nil but not open portal. They need to sit down with the school of their choice who offers what they want and commit. Once signed they get 1 transfer without sitting. If they transfer again they have to sit. Also, 5 years total. That’s it. If this happens recruiting would be different and figuring out your roster each year won’t be nearly as difficult. Hardships, coach fired doesn’t matter. You can also go the juco route and not sit out.

No. Make them have to sit out a year unless head coach leaves. Then only then a free one time transfer

Yeah, and renegotiate at years end for more money or better opportunity.

Or if you transfer to a lower division or you get your degree.

Those 3 categories should be the only time you can transfer and be immediately eligible to play. No exceptions. You can still transfer and sit out a year if it works for you. Troy Aikman did it and it was the right choice for him even having to sit out a year. But this unrestricted free agency for everyone 2x a year is just crazy.

It’s madness. Almost like the adults called the shots for a reason.

Screw you SCOTUS, all 9 of you unelected scumbags.

The athletes have been on a year to year basis for a long time. Scholarships were for one year only.

Now they are on equal footing. They can leave if they want. Before they could not and go play elsewhere.

adults like Urban Meyer??

Don't blame SCOTUS either. Blame the NCAA. They could've adopted an NIL model years ago before the portal and free transfers existed but they held their hands.

The kids were given free educations and tons of resources. That was compensation enough.

18-year-olds do not need this kind of money and power period. Prefrontal cortices aren’t developed enough to handle it.

In football, maybe, but for something like basketball, that would suck.

I wouldn't get too upset about losing starters / high profile people to the portal. It only means that LSU can get those types of transfers to come as well. It's how the game is today and we have to play it.

It is miserable. It is pay to play and for the most part not contractual, not that it should be. It should have been rolled out where the player was paid a portion of monies collected based off of their Name Image or Likeness. That is it, but the NCAA panicked and instead of a well thought out program that would have really rewarded the big programs...they put this out, and it is a free for all and it rewards the rich programs. Add in the portal and the liberal uses of redshirts you have a cluster.

It’s sustainable and I don’t see anything happening at least for the immediate future. The only thing that could happen if people stop caring and stop watching. I don’t see that.

You can say they should've just been happy with what they got and things should've never changed but this was an inevitability. You can't have Johnny Manziel on every television screen and magazine for 8 months and then suspend him for signing autographs. Explaining to a 19 year old that he has to live off a stipend and be happy with his education while ESPN is paying 50m a year to televise that 19 y/o's football game is a system that's completely doomed to fail.

It wasn’t doomed to fail; it was working just fine. They either follow the rules or they don’t play. Look what giving them an inch created.

It was working fine for LSU. There are dozens of programs that feel better about CFB right now and feel like they actually have a shot to compete that had no chance 10 years ago.
