Is LSU the Rodney Dangerdfield of college football? It definitely appears that way, considering that we won 2 National Championships since 2003, only surpassed by our conference rival, Florida, who has now done the same, but in 3 rather than 4 years - yet we're rarely mentioned in discussions of college footballs great teams. I consume many hours of sports banter and have realized that it is painful for most of the sports media types to have to talk about LSU. I remember very vividly that after we whipped Ohio St. in a National Championship game, the utter shock displayed my most sports commentators, who had no knowledge of LSU. Now this years I have had to suffer through the return of Alabama, which for many years, was the only team in the SEC, worth writing about.

What is it going to take for LSU to get some sort of respect? When we won in 2003, I thought that if we won it again, we would get the respect due, considering that we are also the has produced some of the "Greatest" NFL talent, Marshall Faulk, Ed Reed, and the Manning Brothers to name a few. But what is it going to take for us to dominate some of the discussions held nationally the way we dominated Georgia Tech on the field, only to be left out of the final AP Poll?

Yeah, we never get any respect. As noted by our preseason rankings the past couple years and the fact that we were the two loss team picked to play in the NCG last year despite losing to two merely decent teams...

Perhaps not losing to a team with a losing record (Arkansas)?

We don't deserve shite this year except an "at a boy" for winning the bowl game.

Having said that I have faith that Les is gonna fix the issues. Hell he's already putting the pieces in play:

1 - Won the bowl game (helps boost morale for next year, helps recruiting, etc., etc.)

2 - Hell of a recruiting class this year. If we get one more receiver and one more linebacker It'll be one of the most complete classes I've seen.

3 - Defensive staff....enough said on that subject.

The wheels fell of this year but he's putting new ones on with spinners and all if you catch my drift.

Some of the national media is already talking us up into the top ten for next year FWIW.

A few points:

I don't know what being ranked 23/24 matters one way or the other. The less acknowledgement of that train wreck, the better.

We ARE respected, by everyone who follows CFB. In 2007, starting in the pre-season and right up to the Championship game , we recieved a RIDICULOUS amount of publicity. So much, I got sick of the hype.

Just sit back and don't worry about the ESPN chattering class. They are front-runners by definition.

I am not sure there are any 5 loss teams in the AP top 25 poll. Maybe one could make that argument for LSU to be in it because of the whipping they put on GT.

But to say LSU gets no respect is ridiculous. They get as much national respect as Florida. A two loss team playing for the national championship? Thats unheard of, but LSU got the benefit of the doubt because they get respect.

We end the season unranked and the pundits are putting us as top five going into next season.

How the hell is that not 'respect'?

That's fricking AWE.

Or several mediocre teams over several years (Tennessee in '05, both Kentucky and Arkansas in '07 ... and of course '08).
