Anyone have any recommendations where I can get my hands on some pen raised quail to work my dog on around BR? Looking to do a couple of runs before woodcock season kicks in.

I find pigeons fly much stronger then pen raised quail and they are a lot easier to locate then quail.

I have tried everywhere to locate pigeons, but no one sells them as far as I know.

Pigeons are sneaky difficult to acquire these days and when you can find them, they’re typically from pigeon people who want $20/bird and do not want to hear that your plans for their babies involve letting your young dog chase and/or chomp them .

Don't mean to hijack this thread. Do you hunt them at sherburne? I have a GSP and a son that wants to hunt them this year. Don't know where to start.

Pen Raised Quail

Does Angola still raise them? I know their pens were mechanical as to minimize human contact. It’s been 15+ yrs since I’ve worked bird dogs

I am pretty sure Angola stopped selling them a few years ago. If he is dead set on quail Thornhill is probably his best option.

Go do a hunt with Wayne. He’ll let you bring your dog as long as it’s not totally spastic. Then buy some quail to take home with you.

Can get you as many as you want as far as Meridian Ms. That’s still a price from Baton Rouge but I can actually lay my hand on them.
