Why do we think another rebuild will end any differently?

While I do know that we'll be better off by losing every game and getting a high lottery pick, I can't help but assume that whether we get Cooper Flagg or another high potential guy, it will just go the same way it has gone with CP, AD and Zion... tough first couple of seasons, maybe a season or two where we make the second round of the playoffs followed by us trading the guy a year before his first max deal ends because he has no intention on staying with an unserious franchise.

shite sucks.

Well, we know what we have now isn’t working. So even if another way doesn’t work out, at least there is hope and the excitement of something different.

Ok. Im on board. I know it took me a while. Anymore seats left on the tank?

I agree on your other points. But at this point as pels fans I can only hope another GM can somehow make us a somewhat competent basketball franchise.

amen. Management needs to fire Green immediately if for nothing else to show the fans that they care

My point is that the hope wouldn't be there.

Because this franchise with three different stars and, more importantly, three different front office regimes, has fumbled it in spectacular fashion all three times.

I mean what should we do though? Just tell Gayle to sell the franchise and let someone move it from nola?

But it's even beyond Gayle.

CP was under Shinn's ownership and the bulk of AD was under Tom.

I haven't been around here for very long (this will be my 4th year)...but this BI/Zion "situation" has got to be kinda unique.

It seems pretty hard to have a "1" and "2" player on your team...that basically no other team wants any part of...even at a huge discount. Somewhere...the REAL "Batman & Robin"... are rolling over in their graves.

Ever wonder which member of the Pels would currently have the MOST trade value?...I KNOW who it would be for me...

Ok so what is the point though? We should stop cheering for the pelicans because they will never be successful? I get the misery and pain this franchise brings but the hope is at some point it all aligns like it similarly did for Saints in 2009.

You just hope to get lucky and catch some breaks. Up until 2006, the Saints and their fans were in a similar situation. I know they didn’t have star players like the Pels had, but after 40 years of having no hope, all of a sudden there was some. A new GM, head coach, QB, and a great draft that season changed everything, at least for a while.

Huh?

That's not what I'm implying at all, but now that you mention it, I imagine it's going to take a lot for casuals to buy in to the "hey we got a new star" marketing.

Im trying to understand your point. You’re saying there basically is no hope for the pelicans- correct me if im wrong on that. But what else can you do- you just cling onto hope that it changes.

Yeah there is an issue with the casuals but thats not going to change unless this team starts winning on a consistent level.

I literally spelled it out and then you attached like a whole other motive to it

IF...the Lakers have the least bit of interest in BI...I'd trade them BI...for J'Lo Russell and Reaves.

Then...I'd unload J'Lo asap even if I got nothing in return. In fact, Lakers could keep J'Lo and just swap Reaves for BI straight up...IF there were a way to do that...which I'm sure there's not.

Everyone we trade we should be getting back picks and young controllable assets it return.

With AD and with Zion, we've tried the "try to compete with vets while the young star learns" route and both times it not only didn't garner the necessary results on the floor but it also handcuffed by locking up salary that could've been used down the line when the star began to assert himself as the dominant force.

Because what other choice is there?

And the answer is better drafting. It’s the only path for a small market team.

After drafting CP3, our next best draft pick during his era was . . . Darren collision

After drafting AD, our next best draft pick of his era was Buddy hield, and he was turned into Cousins.

One guy in the draft will never be enough. To the Pels credit, they actually done ok since drafting Zion. If Chris Paul had Herb Jones, Trey, Missi, Hawkins added to his team through the draft we’d have been contenders.

We need hit on multiple good players in consecutive drafts. We never really have. OKC has. That’s the difference.

Meh, we were contenders with CP... literally missed winning the west by a game.

The problem there was that we were practicing at the Alario Center and then tried to trade an in-his-prime Tyson for Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith just to save money

Missed the conference finals by a game. Don’t think we beat the Jazz that year. Darren Williams was CP3 kyptonite.

But that’s why the next rebuild can be different maybe. The CP3 era was pretty decent because we hit on West and Paul in consecutive drafts. It wasn’t enough, but was close.

I’m ready to hope for hits in the 2025 (with our pick) and 2026 (with the bucks pick) drafts.
