Am I the only one that likes the BCS the way it is?

I love the bowls. I like college football polls. I like the BCS system and the 1vs2 championship game. I'd never trade the fact that college football is the only sport, professional or ameteur, where the regular season is just as exciting and meaningful and nerve-racking as the "playoffs." It's also cool that in college football 17 teams get to end the season on a win, wheras in most sports every single team that makes the playoffs, save one, ends the season with a loss.
College football being #1 on my sports heirarchy, I love the fact that people talk about college football non-stop because of the BCS. Do you realize how much interest the BCS has created in college football? Of course it doesn't hurt that the BCS has been very good to the SEC and LSU, either.
I'd be all for a "plus one" format, but that's as far as I'd be willing to go. I'm glad the people in charge generally-speaking think like me and not like the regular Joe's out there.

I do like the BCS a lot...it puts the reality back into the rankings....
the only thing I don't like is the gauranteed bowl games for certain conferences....lots of highly ranked teams get left out, while mediocre teams play due to their tie-ins....

I'm with ya. People bash the 1-A college football system but nobody talks about how college football has at least a dozen stadiums that are bigger than most NFL stadiums and are routinely packed out.
College football is king. Why try to be like the little people?

No, absolutely not. There are one or two others that agree with you.
ETA: I'm not one of them

It is a very unfair system, but it is the only sport that I can stay up and cheer for Pitt to beat West Virginia, 2 teams that I haven't watched all season, just as hard as I cheer for LSU. I don't want the BCS system to change just because of the excitement every week. If you go to a playoff, it will definitely be more fair but the last couple weeks you have the undefeated teams pulling their starters like the NFL. I don't think the system we have is going anywhere.

JP, I usually agree with most of what you post, but the BCS is not one of them. I want the best team to hold the NC at the end of the season. Period. Im not convinced the BCS really does this. Just look at this season.

Even if we have playoffs one day, bowls are here to stay. And that is a great thing for CF.

I like the BCS. Only problem I have is that there are too many bowl games.

Makes for really dull BCS games except for the NC game. Even the NC game is not the best with Big 11 and Pac 10 getting semi byes due to weak conferences.
My only problem with multitiered play offs is the grind and injuries on the players after a long season.

A playoff would not necessarily crown the best team either. The BCS rewards the team that has played the best all season long, not just the teams that get hot at the end. Both have their pros and cons, but I don't think playoffs would be good for 1A college football.

Way too many. Over half the teams get to play in a bowl game. It's almost not an accomplishment anymore.

Well, it's a very subjective topic and there is no right or wrong answer. And I totally agree with your statement above.
But to me the best team is the team that puts together the best overall season, Day 1 to the end. I think in the NFL and college football, any team can win a game on any given day, that doesn't necessarily make them the "best team." That's where I have a problem with playoffs ... just because one team had a "good" day and another team had a bad "day" they're somehow better? I'd prefer to look at the season as a whole to crown the best team, and I think in general that's what the BCS system in place tries to do, although we'd all agree that's not an easy task, especially when you're having to pick two teams at the end of the year.
To me, it sucked last year that the Giants won the Super Bowl. Were they the best team on that particular day against the Patriots? Yes. Were they the best team in the league? No, in my opinion. It just cheapened it for me. In college football, you are guaranteed to have a team win the championship that deserves it. Could there be other teams that might have an argument in terms of deserving it? Of course, but at least the team that wins it without question will deserve it based on what they've done the entire season.
ETA: Example ... If San Diego ends up winning the SuperBowl (which I concede probably won't happen), I think that sucks ... they are NOT the "best" team and don't even deserve to be playing for a trophy. It would have been like LSU squeezing themselves into some college football playoff this past season and winning it.
