“We will be just fine”

This phrase is often used on the Rant by those who like to fancy themselves above the latest melt.
Totally botched hiring of assistants. WWBJF
O Line regresses. WWBJF
Lose out on another recruit. WWBJF
Etc etc
We will be just fine = 9 & 5 or 10 & 4 at best. We could have kept Les and would have been just fine. It was my hope that BK would get us to perennial contender status. But he is at best an average sideline coach and his “CEO” skills, talent evaluation, talent development, motivational skill seem grossly overestimated.
Don’t worry though. With BK at the helm, we will be just fine. (8-5 9-4)

There is validity to your argument. But I don't think you can ignore that he also came into a situation where the program had bottomed out to .500 and, through recruiting, and the transfer portal, immediately increased the production...including bringing in a (future) Heisman trophy winning QB.
There was ZERO reason to believe the defense would regress as much as it did last year. LSU doesn't get to 9-3 in year one without the efforts of the defense keeping them in games while the offense struggled. He quickly moved on after one bad season.
Now, the fact that LSU still doesn't appear to have a ton of talent on defense is concerning. But they have improved this year and the recruiting seems to be improving on that side of the ball as well. If it was true that Sloan was the main tie to Underwood, then now there would be no reason to keep him as OC. BK has shown he's not afraid to make staff changes, so we will see what happens.
I'm not saying this will happen, but I've been an LSU fan long enough to remember seeing the GOAT immediately improve the team in year 1, have a better year in year 2...then fall apart in year 3 (4 losses in the second half of the season that would have been worse but for a Hail Mary and 1 point win)....then with the National Championship the next year....only to fall off a bit in year 5.

If you've been a Tiger fan for any substantial length of time, you'd know that we will. You're too emotional and shortsighted. We went 45 without a national championship, and we've had three in the last 20. We went 55 years without a Heisman trophy winner, and we've had 2 in 5 years. LSU football is a powerhouse program--enjoy it.
