of Medicare Advantage for all which would be National Healthcare run through insurance companies. I’m currently on Medicare but specifically avoided the Advantage plans for many reasons. This will get real interesting if this comes up.

What reasons? MA is better run than government plans and has more benefits.

I’ll be following hopefully many opinions on the Advantage plan. I’m right on the cusp of enrollment. Lots of info floating around.

Limited options. Advantage plans take away some benefits in order to save costs and be cheaper. It’s usually benefits like skilled care which most people don’t think about unless they need it. Regular Mcare lets you go to any doctor or hospital with no prior authorization required. I worked in healthcare and saw people not have certain benefits that they needed. You also don’t have the issue of insurance companies and hospitals getting sideways with each other over negotiations. For example: Blue Cross of Tx got sideways with MD Anderson. Can you imagine being a cancer patient and being told you cannot go to that hospital anymore?

Gap plans are better than Advantage plans but can get pricey as you get older

If you are rolling with regular Medicare Parts A and B you are going to be out of pocket A LOT of money.

There are pro and cons to each. Straight Mcare will cost you more but it’s completely hassle free. Just have to get a separate prescription plan and a supplement. Advantage plans will save you money but may limit your options like any insurance company does. I can afford regular Mcare so I will not give it up.

If you haven’t already, get prepared for an onslaught of mail.

I am going to nit pick here. When you say regular Medicare people may think you are only talking about Parts A and B. You need a Gap plan and Part D to supplement "Regular Medicare".

Just Google it. You'll find plenty of stories about Medicare Advantage and how it worked out for sick people.

It seems the insurance industry is using Artificial Intelligence to determine what care you can and can't get, and there really isn't a process to challenge that.

If you are retired military and have “Tricare for Life”…you don’t need an advantage plan. Tricare for Life is your wrap around program that works with Medicare.

Yes and no.

E.g., MA preferentially signs up veterans, many of whom choose VA facilities for their care d/t long term familiarity and decreased personal cost. MA lobbyists have successfully coerced government officials in OMB/HHS/CMS to prohibit VA facilities from billing MA plans for that care. Not 1¢!

So the MA targeted vets are paying for MA plans which they basically are not using. Now you can call that "better run" if you'd like. But in reality, it's shady AF.

Recent retire ..
there are very big differences between ma and traditional Medicare..

Ma is basically a hmo .. they make money by manage your healthcare for lowest cost to them… and do many simple things like force network doctors only.. deny pre existing conditions.. increase cost if you come down with down with diseases ..deny treatments a lot..

There are lots and lots of documented stuff in public warning people..

I have friends on it with horror stories after coming down with MS.. and other significant health issues..

If you are ok with letting the govt decide what doctor you can see.. treatment.. you get.. etc he is your man… oh wait did I describe Canada. …

This topic is too complicated to discuss on a chat site.. if you do not know differences between part a.. b d and differences between gap and advantage .. I would suggest you sign up and get a govt ss id and Medicare id.. then watch their videos.. you can get experts to guide you through at no cost but they will definitely lean toward a path and fwiw they will make money .. not from you but others..

And just google Medicare advantage problems .. you will get lots of real life examples to see and help you decide what is best for you.. some are shocking.

Also if you go on advantage early cause healthy and want to switch to traditional Medicare later in life when you need more care or have existing problems you can be denied.. but regardless of health issue you can not be denied traditional Medicare and gap the first time you enroll at 65
