Never really dealt with dry eyes until about 6 months ago. Really showed up when I would put in contacts my eyes would turn really red. Eye doctor currently has me taking Pataday and Optase eye drops for allergies and dry eyes. Even with this, eyes will flare up red after a few days in contacts.

For those who have dealt with dry eyes, what has helped you? Did you take drops throughout the day? My eye doctor also mentioned daily contacts instead of monthly…any experience with that?

Any advice is appreciated!

Yeah it may be worth switching to daily contacts . That sting and store redness from putting in those longer term contacts suckedddddd I know what you’re talking about . Luckily the dailies you won’t have that issue

I had never had dry eye before a few years ago, and had been a monthly contact lens wearer ( never slept in, but would reuse the same pair in the case for a month or until one of them tore.. whichever came first)

Eye doc suggested switching to dailies and at first I didn’t want to bc I’d been a monthly user for almost 20 years and now I don’t mind. A new fresh pair does seem to help The dryness

Took me several trials of different otc eye drops but now I use Systane complete preservative free. Works great . Love them and they’re the only eye drops I need or use

I keep a bottle in my pocket for as needed relief throughout the day.

The ones with preservatives dried my eyes out even worse , so maybe try different ones and see which helps you

Appreciate the info! Will definitely check out those eye drops. They are also considerably cheaper than the ones I’m using currently

I hope they give you some relief . However it’s basically strictly for rehydration, so for allergies or redness, your other eyedrops you currently use may still be needed .

For example, I don’t really have eye allergies ever so I have no use for the pataday that you use

Yeah I plan on using them still…mainly need rehydrating. Looking forward to trying the daily lenses in a few weeks when I’m able to get back for my next appointment

Daily contacts made a big difference for me. I hesitated for a long time because they’re more expensive but worth every penny.

I was sort of the same way.. but then I’d buy a box of monthly’s and a couple may tear or something and I’d end up having to buy more of the monthly’s to ensure I wouldn’t run out

I tried the eureka wal mart brand of dailies and I like them.. much better fit on my eye than some more expensive brands I trialed and just did not like

They’re $45 for a 90 pack

I’m -7.50 in the left and -6.50 in the right so it’s $90 for 3 month supply of each

Very reasonable if you ask me

Check with eye doctor on quality of tears. You could have blocked oil ducts. If so purchase a heatable eye mask to put on at night for 5 minutes

I have no experience with the use of contact lenses. However, I have had serious ongoing dry eye issues. I have had great relief from my eye doctor inserting Punctal Plugs in the small opening in the bottom corner of my eyes. In the bottom eyeball corner nearest to your nose, you have tiny ducts that help drain tear fluid from the eye. These extremely tiny plugs slow or stop tear fluids from drainage, thus reducing or preventing dry eye conditions.

Additionally, you should try Refresh PM. It's a night time lubricant eye ointment to be used before going to bed at night.

I’ve used dailies for years due to severe dry eye. My contacts will fall out my eyes get so dry. Unfortunately nothing really helps me. I’ve had tear duct plugs several times, but they’re so expensive & I don’t think they did much.

I'm shocked to hear you paid a lot of money for your tear duct plugs. I have Medicare health coverage with no other supplemental coverage specifically for eyes. The plugs my eye doctor used were very tiny and it took her less than a minute to put them in during a regular office visit and I had no out of pocket co-pays.

My doctor mentioned the plugs and that it would be around $300 every 6 months. Thanks but not thanks. I’ll try different drops and daily contacts before that

I've had my original, no copay, plugs for about 4 years. Not replaced every. 6 months.. They have eliminated my need for eye drops.

You might consider seeing another doctor. The plugs are super tiny and should not cost much to produce. My eye doctor implanted a plug in each eye in approximately one minute while I was sitting in the regular examination chair. Implanting these plugs are not a big deal expense wise for the doctors.

Started a trial run of daily contacts a few days ago and have had zero issues. Only used drops once and that was just out of precaution. This has been great after dealing with irritation for the last few months

That’s good news. Monthly contacts despite our best efforts of keeping them clean, do get really dirty with bacteria and irritants

That fresh set each day you can tell a difference. And you don’t have to worry about scrounging around for a contact case or solution.

I really like mine. Hope yours provides continuous relief
