Hobbyist in need of straight lumber (pine), and willing to pay a little more for it. It’s painful having to sort through everything at HD and Lowes.

straight pine is available at lowes/home depot. They both have a selection of finish graded wood that is straight.

I don't know Louisiana, but find a good hardwood dealer.

They will sell S4S pine and such.

Abita lumber.

There’s also a place in ponchatoula but I forget the name. Has different types of hardwoods too so they likely have what you are looking for.

Abita lumber, also there is a reclaimed lumber yard on 21 in Bedico just before you go into Madisonville

Can anyone recommend a saw mill around the New Orleans area? Looking to have some milled lumber accent pieces for a new home.

I found a few folks on FB marketplace. But just would prefer recommendations before I take a gamble with a stranger.

Not in the NO area, but i have a guy that runs a sawmill and he also has a kiln.

Paying extra per board foot for kiln dried is very nice. A 2" board will take over 2 years to air dry.

The guy I use in Oklahoma leases a small building at a commercial sawmill that makes utility poles. He uses their mill and kiln. I've taken white oak, red oak and walnut trunks in for milling and have been pleased. Find a good one there locally and pay extra for kiln dried.

My guy calls me about every other week to update me on what he has. He's selling a bunch of rough sawn walnut for 9 bucks a bf. Really not a bad deal.

I like it because he's local. If i have to drive to a hardwood dealer, it's over 2 hours one way.
