I can't name one.

The MWC was strong as a BCS conference this year (stronger than the ACC, Big East, and Big Ten and on par or a notch below the Pac 10 (pac 10 is on par or just a notch below the Big 12)

They have the resume

No excuses for slip ups.

Anoint them AP Champs.
They deserve it

Because Florida, Oklahoma, USC, and Texas are better.

The MWC beat the shite out of the Pac-10 all year

All year? Try one fluky week. The Pac 10 went 1-0 v the MWC in bowl games (probably 4th best Pac 10 v 3rd best MWC) and USC is better than Utah. Pac 10 > MWC.

EXTREMELY debatable. Take the teams top to bottom and see what happens between these conferences.

They only beat Michigan by 2. They beat no "elite" teams (like the winner of UF/OU will have). They needed a last second FG to beat Oregon St at home (I understand they beat USC, but they also got murdered by Penn St and Oregon, and lost to Stanford.) Give them #2, behind the BCSCG winner.

USC has just as much of a claim...and I am a USC fan but they have a loss to a team utah beat.

USC is better, but the best team doesn't always win. The most deserving team usually is the national champ.

Utah's resume speaks for itself.

PSU: Conference champ; 11 game winner. Beat a top 15 tOSU in the horseshoe
Oregon: 10 win team, beat OSU at OSU, will finish the season in the top 10 or in the top 12

Didn't beat an elite squad? Bama is a legit top 8 squad. If thats not elite then what is? #1 for half the season.

The only elite squad OU beat was... wait they lost to the only on they played UT.
UF beat an elite squad...bama.

This thread isn't about GHAZI boxing, this thread is about making a legit argument for why Utah shouldn't get a split MNC.

If Utah goes undefeated again next season and there are not 2 undefeated BCS schools I bet they will get their shot.

If you're a non BCS school you have to prove your chops. They're halfway there now.

In your opinion, was Alabam better than Texas?

I am just curious, but I would have to suspect that if college football had a playoff or tournament simular to the final four, that people would still say that the best team doesn't always win, just the hottest team. Anyone agree or disagree with this?

Sagarin has MWC the 7th ranked conference (in other words, behind all the BCS conferences).

The only conference I would put them ahead is the Pac10 - but even they had a strong bowl season.

A legitimate argument is this:

Utah did not beat the best team in the best conference. They also did not play in the championship game. Not too hard to figure out.

No.

Alabama felt like a blue collar team that overachieved with defense or discipline, but lacked national championship level talent... which was the reason they were unranked or barely ranked in the preseason.

I have been on the Utah bandwagon from day 1, but here you go...

None of the computers (except Anderson) have Utah in the top 2. The computers take into account record and SOS, and have no bias towards history, tradition, or conference. Objectively it appears that UF and OU's tougher schedule more than makes up for their one loss.

Alabama was lucky to beat LSU, who was pretty awful all year.

Utah had a great season. They aren't the best team in the country, and they won't win the AP. It's a non-issue

Oh please, the Pac 10 proved that its hte 3rd best conference in the nation. Just because there is a perception that its a weak conference doesn't change the fact that USC is one of the 2 best teams in the nation and they went 5-0 in their bowls including wins over the Big 12, ACC, and the Big Ten.

There is not a legit argument. Utah won all their games including a sound victory in a BCS game.
