My wife wants to get me a turntable and system to go with it for my bday/christmas. I’m trying to keep it under $1000. I’ve been doing some research but I’m overwhelmed with the options. What would yall get with that budget?

I have a couple of nice mid entry level turntables. I have an older Pro Ject with a decent Ortofon cartridge. I think I spent just under 400.00 for it. Fully manual, but nice.
About a month ago I bought a Fluance RT85 turntable, also with an Ortofon cartridge. Although it's a slightly better cartridge than the entry level one on the Pro Ject. I bought it in walnut finish. Just under 500.00.

Get your hands on one of these. 1960s Magnavox console. 500 watts per channel. 10 speaker/horn configuration. Couple it with a Bluetooth receiver and Kenwood surround sound system. Wah lah, the wife and most neighbors will hate you.

Look for a Rega Planar 3 and get a Rega Rd3 or Rd5 cartridge to go with it. Made in England and is widely considered to be one of the best turntables ever built. You can get both for about 700e, so it still should be in your budget in terms of dollars.

Thanks all. Follow up question. Should I go with a receiver and passive speakers or powered speakers only?

U-turn audio
Link is to the custom that you basically choose the various components yourself. I added the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. A bit over $300, and handmade in the USA. Love mine.

My Fluance has been a good turntable for the price around $400, went with Schitt Mani preamp and run it to some Sonos 5s that were already in my office. I think for most people on a budget a preamp and some good powered speakers is fine. Unless you want to do the true audiophile setup.
