I don’t have a picture it was too far for phone. I watched it for 10 minutes with my binoculars. My Merlin app didn’t pick it up singing. Here is the description and it’s in Louisiana.
Olive green head with gray beak
Olive green back and wings
The entire edge of the wing is blue as well as the top of the tail feathers.
The throat is light blue and chest is light blue. It’s bigger than a sparrow meaning longer.
Is it a bunting?
After looking at the bunting’s it definitely has the same beak just can’t figure out which one.

Sounds like a juvenile male painted bunting?

I looked at the juvenile male painted bunting and I can’t seem to find a picture of one with the entire chest blue.

Really has me thinking of nothing.

There could be a vireo or warbler with similar color schemes, but those are pretty small birds.

The only thing that keeps from calling it a painted bunting is the olive head and complete olive back with no breaks in the color. The blue started directly below the bill and was bright blue then fading to light blue across the chest. I looked up juveniles of the painted bunting and it just doesn’t fit for the bird I watched this morning. It’s driving me crazy. On a positive note I did spot my first eastern towhee this morning.

I think it has to be the indigo bunting. It has the olive on the back and the blue on the wing. Maybe with this particular bird that I saw the blue appeared on the chest before the back. I’m gonna go with a juvenile male indigo bunting.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I hope I see it again tomorrow.
